Tropes in this episode:

  • Defanged Horrors: Grandis becomes this to Nadia and Jean after she decides to drop their antagonism and behave more nicely and kindly as part of her attempt to woo Nemo. Amusingly, Nadia and Jean are more afraid of Nice Grandis than they ever were of Evil Grandis.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Despite sending Jean and Nadia to Cape Verde on Nemo's orders, Electra didn't expect to find them back aboard again with the Gratan. It's justified, as the crisis and priority of taking out the new Tower of Babel meant Electra simply forgot or didn't have time to consider/realize that she'd unwittingly sent Jean and Nadia right into the lion's den (and they'd be on-site).
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Jean and Hanson squeeing over their mutual interests in technology and the marvels of the Nautilus. The seeds of their friendship's planted here and will be further developed in the next episode.
    • Nemo's shocked reaction to seeing Nadia. Like Electra in Episode 04, he obviously recognizes her and realizes who she is.
    • Nemo having a Blue Water in his possession.
    • Based on Sanson and Hanson's reactions, this isn't the first time Grandis has fallen hard for another man. We'll learn about a previous failed romance in Episode 12.
    • Nadia unconsciously recognizes the song Nemo's playing on his organs as being associated with her Mother. This implies Nemo knew her Mother, or at least had a connection to her and/or her people.
  • Game Changer: After a supporting role in Episodes 4 and 8, the Nautilus becomes the central setting of the series moving forward. The Grandis Gang also officially steps down as antagonists and will be allies moving forward.
  • Heel–Face Turn: The Grandis Gang officially shifts from the Enemy Mine of the previous episode into this new status quo beginning here. They'll further shift into Fire-Forged Friends with Jean and Nadia over the remainder of the Nautilus arc.
  • Here We Go Again!: This is more or less Hanson and Sanson's reaction after Grandis falls for Nemo. They know the signs all too well and are resigned to what's coming.
  • Internal Reveal: Nemo learns of Nadia and her Blue Water.
  • It's All My Fault: Downplayed, but Nemo does feel guilt over ordering Electra to send Nadia and Jean to Cape Verde at the end of Episode 04. He thought it was still a safe port and would never have suggested if he'd known Gargoyle had set up shop there.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Electra did not tell Nemo about Nadia when they took them aboard during Episode 04. So Nemo finally finds out his daughter is still alive and aboard his ship in this episode.
  • Love at First Sight: Grandis meeting Nemo for the first time. Hanson also instantly falls for Electra when she comes down to the docking bay. Sanson and Hanson's reaction seems to imply it often happens to her.
  • Noodle Incident: Based on Sanson and Hanson's reactions, this isn't the first time Grandis has fallen hard for another man. Again, we'll get the full story in Episode 12.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: Initially played straight here with the Grandis Gang in this episode. While having their own grudge against Gargoyle for the events of the last few Episodes the Gang (Sanson in particular) intends to patch up the Gratan and then get the hell out of the line of fire. The Gang only ends up remaining aboard because Grandis falls for Nemo and Hanson and Sanson go where she goes out of loyalty. It'll gradually get further subverted over the next few episodes.
  • Ominous Pipe Organ: After learning Nadia is still alive, a sorrowful Nemo goes to his cabin to play his pipe organ (which then acts like a siren call to a sleepwalking Nadia).
  • Pragmatic Evil: Downplayed, but Grandis acting nicer to Nadia once onboard. Since Gargoyle wanted the Blue Water, there's no point in pursuing it anymore or holding on to a grudge against the acrobat. Plus, Grandis is trying to be on good behavior to impress Nemo.
  • Sleepwalking: Nemo playing his pipe organ makes Nadia sleepwalk to his cabin until Electra wakes her. After Electra asks her what she's doing by Nemo's cabin, Nadia replies the music reminded her of her mother.
  • Squee: As mecha geeks, Jean and Hanson's reactions to being onboard a technological marvel like the Nautilus.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Again, Hanson and Sanson's resigned realization that Grandis has fallen for Captain Nemo.
  • Wham Line: Nemo learning Nadia's name is one in-universe.
  • Wham Shot:
    • Seeing Nadia and her Blue Water for the first time is an in-universe one for Nemo.
    • Nemo has a larger Blue Water in his cabin...and there's a gap right in the middle of it that would be the perfect size for Nadia's Blue Water.
  • What a Piece of Junk: More or less Electra's reaction to the Gratan. She even calls it a 'Bizarre little craft".
