With MK out of action, his friends are put through training and self-improvement under the strict tutelage of Master Subodhi. Meanwhile, the Brotherhood makes their own preparations for their conquest of the Celestial Realm, attempting to unite their other former-sworn brothers, Demon Bull King and Macaque, to their cause.
Tropes:
- Constructive Criticism: Master Subodhi takes time to give each of MK’s friends instruction over where they need to improve, but also tells them the strengths they already have in comparison to Monkey King’s old companions (except Sandy).
- Tang needs to learn to be more hard working and studious to master his abilities like Tang Sanzang did — but unlike Sanzang before him, he's known from the start that friendship has its own power, and has that to drive him.
- Mei is strong and protective but also reckless, brash, and needs to learn to be more careful with her power and wait for the right moment to take action like her ancestor Ao Lie.
- Pigsy is too stubborn to consider all sides to things and see that in spite of his past life’s previous bad deeds, he grew up and became a loyal and caring companion, something that he already is.
- Everyone Has Standards: When MK shows himself to be far too miserable to care about Macaque showing up to toy with him, the latter can’t bring himself to do so and tries to comfort him instead.MK: Go for it, guy. I don't care anymore.Macaque: ...Y'know, it's no fun when you say it out loud. Nice tail, by the way. That's new.
- Oh, Crap!: Macaque has a minor one of these when he shows up during MK's Heroic BSoD to presumably mess with him again, instead seeing MK's monkey form and just how utterly despondent he is.
- Taking the Bullet: Iron Fan is captured when she flies between the Scroll’s ink and Demon Bull King. She intends to use her power to break it apart, but a stray splatter hits her shoulder.
- Teacher's Pet: Whereas Master Subodhi has numerous criticisms for each of MK’s friends, Sandy has no faults beyond being a bit too nice for his own good, getting numerous stars for simply being him.
- You're Insane!: More or less Demon Bull King’s impression of Azure Lion when the latter attacks his home and threatens his family to try and force him into joining the same conquest that almost got them killed the last time they tried.
