"Stand Back Up": Inspired by real-life athletes Sharon and Shirley Firth, the first Gwich'in female Olympians, Molly trains hard to participate in a cross-country ski race where Sharon will be speaking.

"Stand Back Up" contains the following tropes:

  • As Himself: Sharon Firth voices her character as both a child in Molly's Dream Sequence and as an adult in her actual appearance.
  • The Cameo: Henry, the tribal chief of Nenana, attends the ski meet and cheers for Molly.
  • Determinator: Molly breaks one of her ski poles before she's even halfway through the race, but opts to continue on anyway.
  • Dream Sequence: Molly dreams about being a cross country skier with the Firth sisters.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": After being introduced to Sharon Firth and receiving compliments and encouragement from her, Molly and her mom can't resist anymore and excitedly ask to get a picture with Sharon.
  • Training Montage: Molly uses her trek to school and her chores and errands around town to train on her skis.

"Seal Meal": Molly's first fly fishing trip is interrupted when a hungry seal takes over the family's boat.

"Seal Meal" contains the following tropes:

  • Fishing Episode
  • It May Help You on Your Quest: Sven lets Molly borrow his fishing hat, which has an extra fly and a bit of string in case she needs them. Sven's dog Thor rubs up against Molly, leaving some of his fur on her. Molly keeps it and uses it later to make a new fly.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Walter attempts this on the seal occupying the boat. The seal's not convinced.
  • Sweet Seal: Subverted. A seal initially makes itself a nuisance by occupying the Mabrays' boat and eating all of Walter's salmon. But it motivates Molly to figure out how to tie a new fly to catch a fish to lure the seal away, and she thanks it for the lesson and for sharing its river.
