What a way to start off this series: Attack of the 50-foot Spade.

"Diggin' Up Trouble" is the first episode of Modern Objects, released on January 6th, 2019.

Tropes for this episode include...

  • Answer Cut: Played for Laughs.
Rubber: Now, we don’t want you to over-react, but we might need you to help us with something relating to your brother.
Bucket: ...Let me guess, Miss Lab Coat. A crazy accident happened and there was a big explosion and now Spade is destroying the city as we speak, right? Haha...No but seriously, what did he do?
[Scene cuts to her and Map watching a gargantuan-sized Spade doing exactly that]
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Because of his rage - and the effects of being shot by Rubber's MMD - he grows into the size of a Kaiju and goes on a rampage.
  • Call-Back: When discussing a plan to return Spade to normal, Map says that he just wants to give him nachos. Upon hearing this, Bucket recalls how Spade likes nachos (said earlier in the episode).
  • Establishing Series Moment: This episode shows the formula that follows every other episode: Spade and Bucket, alongside Professor Rubber and Map, getting into hijinks in their city.
  • Groin Attack: Bucket gives one to Spade (albeit kicking him in the handle) when he gets her aggravated. Bonus points for the Instant Soprano from the latter.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Spade's short mental breakdown after getting hit by the MMD's ray ended in this, with disastrous results.
  • Shrink Ray: The MMD was supposed to shrink the target, but Rubber ends up causing the opposite effect when she tries to use it on Spade.
