Recap / Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers S3E43 Hogday Afternoon Part 2

Go To

The Ranger kids are at last able to help those who've helped them, as they manage to revive the water-depleted Aquitians. But even if Billy can restore the world's water supply, can the Alien Rangers put an end to Hydro Hog before he drains it again? Elsewhere, in Africa, Young Aisha locates the last Zeo sub-crystal at her new friend Tanya's tribe. She's faced with an important decision between completing her mission or helping find a solution to the animal-effecting famine. Thanks to the surprising success of Rito and Goldar, even if the Rangers can restore the Earth to its proper time, our heroes' lives will never be the same.

Tropes

  • Big Damn Heroes: After Hydro Hog manages to trash the Shogun Megazord, Billy gets the idea to use the remote device to summon the Falconzord.
  • Big "NO!": Billy screams this, when Zordon tells Alpha to teleport the Rangers out while the Command Center is exploding.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Hidro Hog is defeated and the Earth is restored to its proper timeline and the Rangers return to their normal age, but Aisha decided to stay on Africa and Rito and Goldar succeed in stealing the reformed Zeo Crystal and destroy the Command Center, and while the Rangers are evacuated on time, they're still powerless and Zordon and Alpha 5 are presumed dead.
  • Cliffhanger: Rito and Goldar absolutely level the Command Center, leaving the Rangers without powers and a base. Most notably, the words To Be Continued weren't used in the end title cards for the episode.
  • The Day the Music Lied: The theme song plays right as the Fire Saber gets charged up. Suddenly, Hydro Hog catches it, and the music stops.
  • Downer Ending: See above - the last episode of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers ends with powerless Rangers, a destroyed base, and Zordon and Alpha missing and presumed dead. Sure, Power Rangers Zeo picks up right where this episode leaves off, but it was still where this incarnation of the franchise ends.
  • Foreshadowing: Billy's actions during the Command Center explosion will have an effect on him in a future episode. Also Tanya's teleportation streak is colored yellow instead of the usual neutral white used on normal civilians.
  • No-Sell: The Shogun Megazord performs the usual Finishing Move, only for Hydro Hog to catch the Fire Saber mid-swipe and deliver a beatdown.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: Rito gets his second most notable momentnote  when he and Goldar successfully blow up the Command Center.
  • Put on a Bus: Combined with I Choose to Stay, Aisha leaves the group to remain in Africa while she sends her new friend Tanya to take her place.
  • Tempting Fate:
Hydro Hog: Nothing can stop me now!
    [Falconzord squawks]
  • Too Dumb to Live: When Goldar asks how to turn off the implosion device, Rito picks up a hammer.
  • Trash the Set: The Command Center is destroyed.
  • Underestimating Badassery: After the Shogun MegaFalconzord is formed.
Hydro Hog: Should I be impressed?
