Recap / Miami Vice S 1 E 05 Calderones Return The Hit List

Go To

While Switek and Zito are surveilling a drug dealer named Felix Castranova, a hitman named Ludovici Armstrong eliminates Felix, Felix's chauffeur, and Felix's bodyguard. Crockett and Tubbs soon find out that it is an agent of Calderone, returned to Miami, who has orders to eliminate all the competition that had taken his territory while he was The Exile. One of the names on the list is the police officer who arrested him, though: Crockett himself. Meanwhile, Crockett and his wife try to give it another try.

Crockett manages to survive the hitman but it ends his marriage when his wife is almost killed alongside his son.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Anyone Can Die: Armstrong kills Lieutenant Rodriguez, who makes a Heroic Sacrifice to save Crockett's life.
  • Big Fun: Linus is a heavy set drug dealer who enjoys the finer things in life. He's also treated as a minor annoyance rather than a serious threat. Sadly, it doesn't save him from being killed by Armstrong.
  • Divorce Is Temporary: Crockett and his wife Caroline Crockett attempt to give their marriage another go. Their separation is made permanent when she and her son barely survive a hitman's attack.
  • The Heavy: The threat of Calderone's hitman upends Crockett's life.
  • Important Haircut: Crockett shaves his Perma-Stubble in order to look good for his divorce hearings.
  • No Kill like Overkill: The entire Metro-Dade police force unloads into Armstrong after his attempt on Crockett's life.
  • Professional Killer: Armstrong is an assassin that has eight targets to kill for Calderone.
  • Series Fauxnale: Part 1 of 2 meant to wrap up the series if it was about to be cancelled. It actually ended up saving it.
  • The Stool Pigeon: Linus Oliver agrees to help Crockett and Tubbs identify Mendez, a man working for Calderone.
  • Suicide by Cop: Armstrong refuses to surrender even though he's surrounded by a dozen police officers wielding guns and goes down fighting.
  • Taking the Bullet: Rodriguez takes a bullet for Crockett.
  • Those Two Guys: Switek and Zito appear as comic relief cops significantly less competent than our heroes.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Felix's bodyguard has witnessed his boss being murdered and isn't a cop but attempts to take an armed Armstrong alive.
  • Wham Episode: Rodriguez dies. Calderone returns. Crockett's marriage finally ends.
