Recap / Memory Records Volume 7 Chapter 3 Cinderella Of The Secret Night

Go To

After being disinherited from her household and forced to become an instructor. Eve needs to earn some extra money, which causes her to work part-time at a nightclub where she meets someone familiar yet different.

Tropes:

  • Be Yourself: The advice Glenn gives to Eve is to act the same she does to him whenever she talks to customers. Now without her prideful mask, she is able to excel in her job as hostess and entertain the guest.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When Eve nearly shows her true identity to fight off the rude customer and his magicians, Glenn ends up doing it instead due to being unable to see her suffer like that.
  • Buddy Snaps First: When Eve is finally unable to take the verbal abuse of Kars, a rude customer that threatens others with hired mages, she is unable to use her magic to fight back... because Glenn activated his Anti-Magic first due to being unable to see his co-worker suffer like that.
  • Dramatic Irony: Only the reader knows that "Daras" and "Freya" are Glenn and Eve for the majority of the story. At the end of the story, Glenn's identity is revealed, while Eve managed to hide her identity.
  • Foreshadowing: In volume 17 of Akashic Records, Glenn would once again tell Eve to "be herself" when she feels conflicted about her household and just like in this story, it would allow her to succeed in her goals.
  • In Vino Veritas: After a successful day of work, Glenn and Eve celebrate at a bar where they get a bit drunk, but end the conversation upon realizing they said something embarrassing to each other.
  • Lazy Alias: Glenn's fake name while working at the host club is just reversing the characters of his last name.
  • Loves My Alter Ego: Glenn and Eve get along swimmingly as "Daras" and "Freya", but argue as usual when at the academy.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Eve realizes that her financial situation is similar to Glenn much to her dismay.
  • Properly Paranoid: Played for Laughs, since Rumia is completely correct in that Eve, is a dangerous rival since Glenn is shown to be attracted to her alter ego "Freya".
  • Riches to Rags: Since a job as an instructor does not pay nearly as well as a military commander, Eve now lives in a rundown apartment and works at a host club to cover her expenses.
  • Ship Tease: This whole story is one for Glenn and Eve since it shows that the two of them would get along great if they showed their good sides to each other. What is also noticeable is that Glenn is also shown to become rather flustered and embarrassed.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Glenn and Eve both made the same decision to earn extra money by working a night job and even ended up working in the same store through pure coincidence.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: As the titel suggests it is one to Cinderella. The female lead disguises herself as someone else and has romantic interactions with someone else who doesn't know their true identity.
