Recap / Masters of the Universe: Revelation S1 E5: The Forge at the Forest of Forever

Go To

On Preternia, Adam finishes the final touches on Orko's grave. Teela and Evil-Lyn both lay down momentos for the fallen Trollan, the burnt piece of Orko's scarf and Lyn's helmet, and acknowledge the death of their brave friend. However there is no time to mourn, what little amount of the Orb of Power has almost flickered out of existence and the Sword of Power needs to be reforged. Adam produces the light half of the Sword of Power but notes that even if they can reforge the sword it is no easy feet leaving Preternia.

As Adam takes himself and Teela to go see King Greyskull, to see if he may be able to get the heroes home, Andra and the rest go out to seek the legendary forger He-Ro who may be able to help them reforge the blade. The walk to King Greyskull is awkward for Adam and Teela as she clearly still has unresolved anger towards him for lying for so long.

Suddenly they see many famous heroes from Eternia's past riding past chasing a panther. Adam explains that this is an annual hunt and that all of Eternia's greatest heroes enjoy a friendly chaise to see who can catch the animal first. Wiping out two hover pads Adam and Teela right out to the front of the procession to meet King Greyskull and, along the way, start to bond with each other again.

Meanwhile inside a castle the rest of the group meets up with He-Ro who examines the two halves of the sword. He notes that it would not be impossible to reforge the blades but it would take a massive amount of power and the right area to reforge it. Roboto offers his own heart as the fire to reforge the blade and Andra notes they can uses the castles interior as a giant forge.

After the hunt is over Teela gets to meet King Greyskull and the rest of the former champions of Eternia. Greyskull notes that Adam is unique in that, while everyone else choice their stronger forms, Adam choice to remain in Preternia as his Prince Adams self. Later that night Greyskull reveals that, as the namesake of the titular Castle, his tower in Preternia should connect with Castle Greyskull in the mortal world.

When Adam inquires on why he never used the tower to return to the land of the living Greyskull says that he is already dead and it wouldn't be natural. He notes that when he was alive he feared death but once he finally died he realized there was nothing to fear. Now that he is in paradise he doesn't want to leave. This upsets Teela who leaves the campfire while King Greyskull tells Adam to give her time.

At the makeshift forge Roboto is getting ready to reforge the Sword of Power. Evil-Lyn transfers the last ember of the Orb of Power into his heart which powers him up. Roboto warns the others to get outside the castle and begins working on the blades.

Adam finds Teela brooding on the lake and tries to get her to talk to him. She reveals that she still feels angry and hurt at him for not confiding his secret to her, thinking that she never knew him at all. Adam tells her that isn't true and that she knew the real him. He asks to know why she really came to Preternia and asks what happened to Eternia while he was gone but she refuses to answer since there's nothing he can do anyway, and that he should just enjoy the paradise he earned.

After she leaves Adam talks with Moss-Man, who also now resides in Perternia after his death, and asks him what he thinks about returning to Eternia. Moss-Man warns Adam that if he chooses to leave it is unlikely he will ever return again.

At the forge Roboto pushes himself to the breaking point to reforge the Sword of Power. Finally the sword is fully restored though in the process a blast wave destroys the tower and several parts of Roboto's body. As Roboto starts to shut down he confides to Teela and Andra that he is scared of dying but notes that this means he was truly alive and asks them to thank Duncan for making him. With that Roboto dies as his friends weep for him.

Some time later the heroes are getting ready to leave Perternia and return to the land of the living. Adam decides to go back in order to call upon the Power of Greyskull. The other heroes try to convince him to stay, saying that there will be champions after Adam who can call upon the power, but Adam refuses citing that Orko and Roboto laid down their lives for this mission and he won't let their death be in vain. He tells Teela he will follow her and bids farewell to his fellow champions.

Adam is no sooner brought back to life then he is almost killed by one of the Motherboard cultists who are attacking the Hall of Wisdom. After a break in the fighting Adam reunites with Man-At-Arms, Cringer and the Sorceress and goes down into the center of the Castle where he died saving the universe.

With the reforged Sword of Power in hand once again Adam calls upon the Power of Greyskull. As the Sword acts as a conduit for Eternia's magic the Orb of Power is restored, the decayed plant life inside the sanctuary blooms anew and the visage of Castle Greyskull returns. Seeing that the greatest source of magic in the world has been restored, Tri-Klops orders a full retreat.

However things inside the Castle are not well. As everyone else is distracted by Adam channeling the power of Greyskull once again, no-one but Evil-Lyn notices the ram head of the Havok Staff coming out of her back of its own accord.

Suddenly just as Adam is about to transform into He-Man he is impaled by the Staff. To the shock and horror of everyone in the room Skeletor emerges from Evil-Lyn's staff and has stabbed Adam in the back. Having attacked him in his more vulnerable form Skeletor is easily able to take the sword from Adam and push him to the side to Teela's grief.

Skeletor reveals to a shocked Evil-Lyn that, before he could be killed by the exploding Orb of Power, he transferred his essence into her magic wand and bide his time until the right moment had arrived. Now that he has the power of the universe, quite literally, in the palm of his hand he offers Evil-Lyn to join his side once again. Although she briefly hesitates Evil-Lyn chooses to side with Skeletor and she and Beast Man return to his service once again.

Now with his greatest enemy lying bleeding on the floor Skeletor calls upon the Power of Greyskull, declaring himself a god. As a dark parody of He-Man's usual triumphant transformation plays out Skeletor, now imbued with godlike power, declares himself the true Master of the Universe.

Tropes:

  • Ascended to a Higher Plane of Existence: Rather then a traditional heaven, Preternia seems to be more like Valhalla where warriors who laid down their lives protecting the innocent are given an eternal reward for their services and allowed to spend the rest of their lives in peace. Meanwhile normal humans merely pass away and their bodies become one with the earth in their passing.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Part One of Revelation ends with Skeletor, who has been Not Quite Dead this whole time, returning from within Evil-Lyn's staff, stabbing Adam in the back before he could transform into He-Man, claiming the Sword of Power for himself, and becoming a god like being.
  • Barred from the Afterlife: Moss Man and King Greyskull warn Adam that if he returns with the heroes back to Eternia he may never again return to Preternia and will die like any other human. Adam is perfectly fine with that if it means protecting his friends.
  • Big Damn Reunion: All over the place with Adam who reunited with Teela and co in the previous episode, and gets to reunite with Man-At-Arms, the Sorceress and Cringer, the latter of whom jumps onto Adam and licks him when he sees him again.
  • Cliffhanger: Part One ends with Skeletor claiming the power of Castle Greyskull after stabbing Adam in the back and declaring himself the true Master of the Universe.
  • Due to the Dead: After finding out about Orko's sacrifice Adam carves a grave stone for him, Teela lays down the cloth that remains from his scarf, and Evil-Lyn takes off her helmet and place it on his graveside. Adam then asks the spirit of Moss Man to create a small collection of flowers from Trolla around the grave.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: The Havok Staff flying out of Evil-Lyn's back by itself is all the time the audience has to process whats about to happen before Skeletor returns and stabs Adam in the back.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: The stress of reforging the Sword of Power ends up doing irreparable damage to Roboto who passes away in Teela's arms.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Skeletor stabs Adam through the back with his Havok Staff while he was in the middle of transforming into He-Man.
  • Not Quite Dead: As it turns out Skeletor managed to narrowly escape his death in the first episode by sealing his essence away into Evil-Lyn's staff. Once Adam calls upon the Power of Greyskull Skeletor reforms himself and his Havok Staff to stab Adam before he could transform into He-Man and steal the Sword of Power for himself.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: When Adam, Teela and the others return its in the middle of Duncan defending the Hall of Knowledge from the Motherboard cult, with him noting that he's been defending the Castle from waves of the cultists every hour.
  • Redemption Rejection: Considering the time spend seeing Evil-Lyn's softer side throughout the last couple of episodes it seemed like she might redeem herself for her past actions. However once Skeletor returns and offers her a place by his side again she and Beast Man rejoin him.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: When Tri-Klops sees Castle Greyskull returning he orders him men to retreat.
  • Transformation Is a Free Action: Averted as Adam is calling upon the Power of Greyskull by Skeletor who stabs him through the back and takes the Sword of Power from Adam interrupting his transformation into He-Man.
  • Wham Episode: Adam chooses to return to Eternia to help restore magic to the land despite the strong likelihood that he will never again be able to return to Preternia. With the reforged Sword Adam is able to bring magic back to the land and restore to Orb of Power. However before he can turn into He-Man, a very much alive Skeletor impales him through the back and takes the Sword of Power, using it to transform himself into Skelegod and become the Master of the Universe.
  • Wham Shot: Adam's transformation cutting out blood coming out of his mouth as we see a very much alive Skeletor impaling Adam with his Havok Staff.
