  • Bastard Boyfriend: Alec Peters was this to Gabby Shaw, which lead to the latter to break up with him. Alec, however, didn't take very well to this.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Ralph Priatti
  • Et Tu, Brute?: When her friends are being convicted, Gabby is distraught at how they betrayed her by orchestrating her brutal gang rape just to help Alec Peters get back at her.
Gabby: I thought they were my friends. I trusted them.
  • Holding Back the Phlebotinum: The detectives get Gabby to easily entrap Louis into a confession via a taped phone call, and then don't even try to trap any of her other friends the same way.
  • Idiot Ball: Even though, as Munch says, the whole point of "top-sharking" is to videotape and broadcast the incident, the detectives don't even think to look for a video-taper until their witness's unexpected disclosure in court.
  • It's Personal: In a rare positive example, Amaro goes easy on Frank, eventually convincing him to testify as a prosecution witness, as well as convincing the other detectives to ignore his false confession because Amaro is familiar with postwar PTSD from the experiences of his wife.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Knowing that there's nothing they could do to dispute the video evidence backing up Frank's testimony, Brit, Jake, and Alec all forgo jury verdict and plea guilty on all charges.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Ralph agreed to video tape Gabby's assault at behest of his brother Louis since he's willing to do anything for him, saying good soldiers follow orders. Amaro counters back by stating that a good soldier also knows the difference between right or wrong.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: In trying to discredit Frank's testimony due to his PTSD, Defense Attorney Cohen accidentally triggers another memory that he saw that night, that being a fourth party responsible for recording the whole assault. Getting Ralph's testimony and proof of his involvement by showing them the uploaded video gave Barba all the evidence he needed to put Brit, Jake, and Alec away to Ryker's.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Frank Patterson
  • Schlubby, Scummy Security Guard: Frank appears to be this when rape victim Gaby remembers him jumping on top of her while acting as a security guard at a concert, and how cold and blank his eyes were. It turns out that he's actually a Shell-Shocked Veteran who was attempting to protect Gaby from being sexually assaulted.
  • Third-Person Person: Alec Peters sometimes refers to himself as Alec Peters just to show how full of himself he is.
  • Villain Ball: Brit, Jake, and Alec all could've have gotten away with their crime had they not had Ralph record and upload the whole thing to nearly half the school, password protected video or not.
  • Villain Respect: For what its worth, Cohan recognized when Barba has him corned with the last-minute evidence, and goes down without a fight.
