Tropes

  • Appeal to Novelty: One of the dishes Ramsay sampled during tasting was a grilled chicken salad, with the main novelty being that the chicken wasn't the only thing grilled. Cue Ramsay standing up in his chair and taking a poll of the rest of the restaurants lunch rush to see if they've ever had a salad where the lettuce had been grilled with the chicken.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: Gordon described the menu as "fusion confusion", and that was before he tasted an overly-spicy grilled Caesar salad with grilled lettuce and a sesame-grilled salmon with a red onion ragù, strawberries, sticky rice, and green curry sauce. Jorge had opened a restaurant right out of culinary school and hadn't quite got the hang of which flavors work together.
  • Downer Ending: In 2013, Park's Edge closed due to its lease expiring; despite efforts to find a new location, it never reopened.
  • Exact Words: When the restaurant says "Grilled Chicken Salad", they mean "Grilled Chicken Salad"; the lettuce itself is actually put on the grill. Gordon even points this out to the other diners in the restaurant to much laughter.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: A chef named Matt was opposed to the new menu, namely the fried chicken wings, because he felt that cooking them was disrespectful to a "fine dining" restaurant and someone (namely the female chef instructing him) should put some "orange shorts" on. Gordon quickly calls Matt out by pointing out he's not the one with the restaurant. His continued defiance gets him fired mid-service.
