Recap / Kipo And The Age Of Wonderbeasts S 2 E 04 To Catch A Deathstalker

Go To

The chase continues for the old burrow, but first, Kipo and Wolf must keep their cool among the Deathstalkers. Scarlemagne makes a whopping discovery.

Tropes:

  • Alien Blood: Deathstalkers bleed green blood.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Deathstalkers are huge scorpion mutes with three stingers.
  • Bizarre Alien Senses: The Deathstalkers hunt by hearing the heartbeat of their prey. As long as one keeps their cool, the Deathstalkers can't hear them.
  • Call a Rabbit a "Smeerp": Due to not living with humans, Wolf used several innocuous objects as makeshift weapons and calls the karaoke machine 'Hoot Hoot'.
  • Ear Worm: In-Universe. After finally leaving the Deathstalkers' territory, Wolf starts humming the "Heroes On Fire" song, as she admits it is stuck inside her head, much to Kipo's joy. As Benson and Dave join in, Kipo declares that from now on, it would be "their song".
  • Foreshadowing: Wolf mentions that a Deathstalker's sting can knock out anyone, with no one being immune; later on, when Kipo fights them to rescue Wolf, one of them ends up stinging itself and knocking itself out.
  • Improvised Weapon: In deathstalker territory Wolf used jump ropes and devil sticks as weapons.
  • Karaoke Bonding Scene: The "Heroes On Fire" scene. While Wolf doesn't join in with Kipo, it's pretty clear she enjoys it.
  • Lighting Bug: Scarlemagne’s Nobles use lightning bug mutes carried by their flamingos as searchlights to try and spot anything that moves on the ground through the night.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: The name ‘Deathstalker’ can send chills up someone’s spine. Dave lampshades this by saying the word “death” can make anything sound scarier.
  • Noodle Incident: At the end, when Kipo and Wolf regroup with Benson, Dave, and Mandu, Benson is dressed as a cowboy, Dave is wearing a coat, and Mandu is dressed as a sheep, which doesn't get explained onscreen. Probably also counts as Offscreen Moment of Awesome (explosions being involved).
  • Ribcage Ridge: The entrance to Deathstalker territory is marked by the massive skeleton of a Mega Mute they killed and ate.
  • Scary Scorpion: Deathstalkers fit this trope like a glove. They are giant red scorpions with three tails that can sense their prey through heartbeats.
  • Survival Mantra: Kipo makes one of this every time she needs to take deep breaths to calm herself down.
