There is a dance in Kenan and Kel's school and Kenan wants to ask Sharla out but she tells him she wants to go with a special guy, he decides to impress her by saying he's going to the dance with Tamia, a famous singer, but there's one problem, Kenan doesn't know Tamia and must convince her to go to the dance with him. Meanwhile, Kel is getting extravagant gifs from a secret admirer.
- Abhorrent Admirer: Kel's secret admirer, (who was an old lady), becomes this at the end of the episode as she asks him to give her a foot massage after the dance.
- Alone Among the Couples: Kenan finds himself in this when Tamia doesn't show up at the dance. That's until Sharla arrives.
- Bait-and-Switch: When Kenan laments out loud that Sharla apparently doesn't reciprocate his feelings, a sad violin music is heard in the background... and it turns to be a violinist playing by his side (having being sent there as a gift from Kel's secret admirer). And Kenan asks him to stop that sad song.
- Celebrity Lie: When pressured by Kel, Sharla and Marc into revealing who will be his date at the dance, Kenan sees a poster and lies saying he will go at the dance with Tamia, a singer he never met before and to cover up the lie, he convinces her to go to the dance with him.
- Dance of Romance: during the school dance with several couples:
- Kenan and Sharla.
- Kel and an old lady.
- Marc and his date.
- Sheryl and Roger.
- Dirty Old Woman: Kel's secret admirer is this as she was an old lady sending gifts and asking on a date to a teenager.
- Heartbreak and Ice Cream: Sharla does this when heartbroken after Kenan tells her he asked Tamia out.
- Insecure Love Interest: Kenan was this, as he believed that Sharla would rather go to the dance with a special guy and tells Tamia he thought if Sharla saw him with a famous girl like her, Sharla would see him as special as well. This moves Tamia and convinces her to go to the dance with Kenan.
- Nice Girl: Tamia is this, who despite not knowing Kenan personally, thinks him wanting to impress Sharla in the dance is very romantic and agrees to go with him. And despite ultimately being unable to show up, she goes to try to apologize to Kenan and tells Sharla he wanted to impress her, which makes Sharla go to dance with Kenan.
- No Sympathy: When Tamia is unable to show up at the school dance, everyone, including Kel and the dance's DJ give Kenan a bad time for that, except for his mother.
- Oblivious to Love: Kenan becomes sad when he thinks Sharla wants to go to the dance with "an special guy", unaware she's talking about him.
- Pet the Dog: Tamia goes to apologize to Kenan for not being able to go with him at the dance, but when she arrives to Rigby's, she only finds Sharla there and tells her that Kenan actually asked her out to impress Sharla, which made Sharla to go to the dance to tell him that Tamia wasn't coming and that she was flattered that he wanted to impress her and wanted to go to the dance with him all along. Later at the end of the episode, Tamia arrives to the stage singing a part of her song "Imagination" when Kenan wished to hear her sing one last time and Tamia apologized to him in person for not going to the dance and asked if she could make up for him and Kenan asked for her help in a prank.
- So Proud of You: Roger tells this to Kenan when he hears he's going to the dance with Tamia.
- Stood Up: Zigzagged, as Tamia honestly agreed to go to the dance with Kenan, but ultimely was unable to due to having to leave the city, and Tamia goes to Rigby's to apologize to Kenan for this, but he's already gone.
