Recap / Justice League Action S 1 E 41 Harley Goes Ape

Go To

When Gorilla Grodd takes control of Titano and goes on a rampage through Metropolis, Superman and Stargirl have to stop them, with some help from Harley Quinn.

Tropes:

  • Adaptation Origin Connection: Here, Dr. Harleen Quinzell tended to Titano before she worked at Arkham Asylum and became Harley Quinn.
  • Boring Insult: Superman puts on a lead suit to protect himself from Titano's kryptonite Eye Beams. Harley asks what's with the suit, but when he starts to explain, she immediately calls him boring.
  • The Dog Bites Back: When he's freed from Grodd's mind control, Titano is quick to take his revenge on Grodd.
  • Easily Forgiven: Harley doesn't take it personally that Grodd tried to kill her and offers to counsel him on his issues.
  • "King Kong" Climb: Towards the end of the episode, Titano scales the Daily Planet in a Shout-Out to King Kong. Harley Quinn even lampshades it:
I seem to remember seeing something like this in a movie. It didn't end well.
  • Mind-Control Eyes: Titano's eyes glow green while Grodd's mind control helmet is controlling him. They revert to normal when the helmet is broken by Stargirl.
  • Mythology Gag: Harley sarcastically calls Stargirl "Yankee Poodle".
  • Nothing Personal: After they're both detained, Grodd apologizes for trying to kill Harley and says he just got caught up in the heat of the moment.
  • Oh, Crap!: Grodd's reaction when Titano is freed from his mind control.
  • Pet the Dog: This is definitely Harley's most sympathetic portrayal in the show without a doubt. Of course, her co-creator, Paul Dini, wrote this episode, so it's not much of a surprise.
  • "Take That!" Kiss: When Stargirl tries to arrest Harley, Harley mocks her, saying she is just a little girl, then kisses her on the cheek and tries to walk away. Stargirl zaps her in response.
  • Tempting Fate:
Stargirl: You'd have to be totally crazy to be on the streets now. (leaves)
(Harley peeks out from behind a wall and laughs as she goes to rob a jewelry shop)
  • Villain Team-Up: Averted when Grodd says that he's not interested in forming an alliance with Harley Quinn.
