When the campers discover that a brand new threat more deadly than anything they’ve encountered before is stalking the island, they have to fortify the camp as a storm rolls in and the danger draws closer.

  • Absurdly Ineffective Barricade: The campers reinforce their perimeter fence with rocks and logs in anticipation of the Scorpios rex, and even electrify it with a car battery. Not only does the electricity arcing in the rain attract the creature’s attention, but its ability to climb trees and jump clean over the fence make it completely worthless.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: The only real weakness of the Scorpios rex; twice it has the campers dead to rights, and twice it lets them go after being distracted (once by lightning hitting a tree nearby, and once by the roars of distant dinosaurs).
  • Battle in the Rain: The Scorpios rex shows up just as it starts pouring rain, and it attacks the camp during the downpour.
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: The Scorpios rex has a short tail filled with detachable venomous spines. Sammy gets swatted by the tail, and falls unconscious near the episode’s end.
  • Dramatic Thunder: Happens a few times as the Scorpios approaches the camp.
  • The Dreaded: Every herbivore on the island flees before the Scorpios rex, even the Ceratopsians and Stegosaurs. Even Bumpy flees the camp.
  • Foreboding Fleeing Flock: Every animal on the island flees before the Scorpios rex; its presence is twice heralded by an herbivore stampede.
  • Hostile Weather: A massive tropical storm hits Isla Nublar, and the waves are too high for the campers to try to leave on the yacht or take shelter inside.
  • Impending Doom P.O.V.: Several shots are taken from the Scorpios rex's point of view.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Darius claims the Scorpios rex is one. They’ve been able to survive so far because they know about the animals on the island, but the hybrid was kept a secret even from most of the park employees, so they have no idea what to expect.
  • A Storm Is Coming: Quite a bit of camera focus is paid on the approaching thunderheads, as metaphor for the approaching menace.
