The Martian Rescue is a 1960 Felix the Cat cartoon, and the 66th episode of the Felix the Cat (Joe Oriolo) series.

Felix is relaxing one night, listening to the story "Men From Outer Space" on the radio. Felix mopes about how nothing exciting like that ever happens around where he lives when the radio broadcast is interrupted by a news bulletin about a UFO sighting. When it says it may be a flying saucer, Felix gets excited and runs to the window, looking to the sky for it. Felix grabs a rifle hanging over his fireplace and runs outside, just in time to see a flying saucer appear and then crash near his house. Felix runs to the crash site, and challenges the "martians" to come out—just as a opening appears on the saucer, with a giant robot stepping out of it. Felix gets worried, but things don't get ugly—one of the robots legs turns into an elevator, and a little alien emerges from it, showing Felix a piece of paper on hand. Felix is relieved at how little the alien is, and ponders if the alien is lost, so Felix tells him he's on Earth. The alien gets flustered, but Felix continues to help him, offering him his friendship and a chance to eat at his home. While walking there, the alien's legs retract into his body and he floats in mid-air. Felix opens the door for the alien to enter his house, but he teleports inside instead. Felix seats him at a table and gives him a plate of bread to eat while he gets more food. While rummaging his fridge, the alien devours the entire plate of bread, and then swipes the meat Felix has on hand. Felix irrationally deduces from his appetite that the alien is dangerous, so he grabs his rifle and aims it at the alien. The alien swipes it and holds Felix at gunpoint—only to devour his gun on the spot. Felix realizes he can eat anything, but wonders what he'll eat next—and if he's on the menu.

In the second half of the episode, the alien begins approaching Felix, with Felix begging him not to eat him—just as another news bulletin comes on the radio. The alien quickly eats the radio before it can say a word, and Felix admonishes him for not letting him listen to it. But from inside the aliens stomach, the broadcast comes through, saying the flying saucer sighting was just a false alarm. Felix is not amused at the irony of this. The alien adjusts the dials on his body, which change the station of the radio, causing the alien to fly around and go haywire while listening to its broadcasts. During a boxing program, the alien ends up getting punched by thin air and is sent flying through the wall. Felix laughs, assumes the alien is done for, and walks off—just as the alien angrily teleports right behind him. It starts chasing Felix, only to be interrupted by the boxing program again and is sent flying through the roof. Felix laughs and walks off again, but the alien is persistent and teleports behind him yet again—but the boxing program interrupts him once more and sends him flying into a wall, with a goat trophy on Felix's wall falling off and landing on his head. Angered, the alien charges at Felix, rams him in the hindquarters a few times and bites his tail. But the alien is interrupted by the boxing program one more time, which sends him flying out the window and back into his spaceship. The alien finally gives up, hands Felix's radio back to him, and flies off into outer space. Relieved, Felix goes back inside and starts reading a book—just as another radio broadcast about a flying saucer comes on. Felix angrily throws his books at the radio in response, and laughs as the cartoon irises out.

Tropes:

  • Big Eater: The alien devours a whole plate of bread, a steak, hambone and a chicken leg in seconds. He eats Felix's rifle, too.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The alien's appetite ends up being his own undoing when he eats Felix's radio, which is what ends up defeating the alien.
  • Humongous Mecha: The flying saucer has a robot inside of it, and it's absolutely massive. It's even bigger than the Abominable Snowman Felix once met!
  • I'm a Humanitarian: After seeing what he's capable of eating, Felix gets worried that he'll be next on the aliens dinner plan. It immediately turns out he's right.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: After getting beat up enough times by the boxing broadcast, the alien gives up, hands Felix his radio back, and flees the planet.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When the radio says the flying saucer sighting was a false alarm, an annoyed Felix glances at the camera and rhetorically asks "No martians?! What do you call that?!" while pointing at the alien.
  • Non-Indicative Name: There's no rescuing involved in this episode—Felix is doing his best to deal with a martian instead.
  • No Name Given: The Martian Felix meets isn't given a name.
  • Oh, Crap!: Felix is clearly shaken and sweating bullets at the sight of the giant robot emerging from the saucer.
  • Teleportation: The Martian is able to teleport, and does this to get into Felix's house instead of using the open door, and reappear behind Felix when he gets angry.
  • The Unintelligible: The Martian speaks in deep-throated noises that don't form any comprehensible words.
