"Oh no you don't! You're under arrest!"

The Professor's Committed No Crime! is a 1961 Felix the Cat cartoon, produced by Joe Oriolo and distributed by Trans-Lux.

The episode starts with a police chief showing Felix, working as a cop, a mugshot of The Professor, asking if he knows him. Felix says yes, and asks if he's wanted again. To Felix's surprise, he says no, because Professor hasn't committed a crime for a whole week. He's suspicious, and orders Felix to investigate. Meanwhile, at Professor's lab, he's having trouble with his newest invention, a airplane for escaping police, which doesnt work at all. Felix spies on him behind a computer monitor as the plane crashes. Professor reveals to Poindexter that it also acts as an automatic pickpocket, but is basically honest. Professor gives up on the invention and throws in the towel as a screw springs a leak in the lab, flooding it as Professor paddles around in his plane like a boat. Felix tries to hide again, but Professor catches him spying and begins swinging his oar at him, whacking him and sending him underwater. Felix flings back up through the air and lands on the plane, which somehow activates a ray on it that flips several nearby objects upside down. Professor, intrigued, has a eureka moment and decides he's finally found a use for the invention, specifically for emptying banks. Felix holds up a gun to Professor to arrest him, but Professor merely flips the gun upside down and shoots it back at Felix, who dives underwater and decides to whip out his Bag of Tricks, which he turns into a motorboat. Professor tries to shoot Felix again, but the gun is out of bullets. Nonetheless, Professor uses the airplanes ray to flip Felix upside down and bonk himself on his head, knocking him down. He ties Felix to the boat and drills a hole in it, sending him underwater.

Felix calls for help underwater, but Poindexter shows up in a diving mask to rescue him, raising his boat above the water, making it outside as the water pours out of the lab. Poindexter ponders how they can stop Professor from robbing a bank, but Felix reminds him that he still has the bag of tricks, and it turns into a car and head of. Meanwhile, Professor flips a bank upside down with his airplane ray, and empties the whole thing of money, but he still has problems with the vehicle malfunctioning. Felix and Poindexter finally catch up to him, but Professor wrecks the car by extending a hand on a spring out of his plane. He then lifts Felix into the air with his ray, flips him over and then bashes in head on the car, smashing it to pieces, with Professor escaping. Felix reassembles the car back into the Magic Bag, but Professor wishes up and uses the ray to grab the Bag as he runs off. Professor laughs at his victory—only for his plane to abruptly come to life, sprouting a face and saying “Professor, you belong in jail!” Professor admits he knows, and asks that it be their little secret, just as the plane empties the money into a funnel for Felix (who also takes time to get his bag back), and then shoots another ray at Professor, locking him up in a jail cell and striped apparel, citing that Professor forgot that he's basically honest. With Professor imprisoned, the Chief rewards Felix with a Hero Medal—but Felix decides to aware it to Professor's airplane instead.

Tropes:

  • Non-Indicative Title: It turns out the Professor actually is trying to commit a crime—the police chief is rightfully suspicious that Professor hasn't committed any crimes for a while, and sends Felix to investigate him, believing he's up to something.
  • Sentient Vehicle: The Professor's airplane is revealed to be this out of nowhere in the ending.
  • Turned Against Their Masters: Professor's airplane abruptly turns its back on Professor and ends up saving the day.
