Recap / Jackie Chan Adventures S 2 E 23 Into The Mouth Of Evil

Go To

After defending a colleague from supposed thugs, Jackie is injured and needs an oral procedure, which might have more impact than expected on a business trip to India.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Beware the Mind Reader: Mohajah can read minds.
  • Brick Joke: Uncle's curry powder. Jackie has to use it as a smokescreen to escape and Mohajah uses his psychic powers at the end of the episode to not only bring it up, but also give Jackie Uncle's signature two finger strike.
  • Depraved Dentist: Dr. Weber hides the Sutras in Jackie's tooth as a filling and later removes it in India without any pain medication to comply with Jackie's hate of needles.
  • Double-Meaning Title: The Mouth could represent how Jackie's oral procedure has a filling that could be used for evil, and the focus of the episode is in the mouth of the Ganges river.
  • Enlightened Antagonist: Mohajah, a menacing Indian mystic with mind-reading powers who pursues Jackie. Subverted: it turns out that Mohajah was Good All Along, and simply wanted to foil the real villains' plans by removing a dangerous artifact that they had planted in Jackie's tooth in order to smuggle it to India.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Portia traps Jackie and Jade with Jade lamenting that they won't be able to deliver Uncle's curry powder. Jackie realizes what she's getting at and uses it as a smokescreen.
  • Evil All Along: Jackie's colleague Jumba, his associate Portia, and dentist Dr. Weber wish to use the Sutras to dry up the Ganges river to collect the valuable artifacts at the bottom and get rich.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • While Mohajah's disciples first attack Jumba, it was in the presence of a security guard who was sound asleep. While this comes off as a joke at the guard's laziness, the fact that he wasn't attacked suggests they aren't quite the bad guys they first look like.
    • Jackie is surprised the men attacking Jumba are practitioners of yoga, an art that is not meant for combat, which clues in they aren't the thieves Jumba claims they are.
  • Good All Along: Mohajah and his 3 disciples wanted to protect the Ganges river.
  • Improvised Weapon: Portia threatens Jackie and Jade with a dentistry x ray camera. They counter with the curry powder Jackie bought for Uncle earlier.
  • Lack of Empathy: When Jackie realizes in horror that draining the Ganges river would ultimately cause the deaths of millions of people who depend on said river for water and crops, the three villains could care less and call Jackie "sentimental".
  • Light Is Good: Mohajah's disciples dress in white clothing and practice yoga, they are the good guys.
  • The Paralyzer: At the end of the episode, Mohajah mentally immobilizes Jumba, Dr. Weber, and Portia.
