Recap / Jackie Chan Adventures S 2 E 24 The King And Jade

Go To

Captain Black assigns Jackie as the king of Tangra's bodyguard while he's visiting San Francisco.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Bait-and-Switch: Jade assumes Chaktar is working for the kidnappers cause his tattoo is similar to theirs: turns out the kidnappers have dragon tattoos while Chaktar's is a monkey.
  • Evil Chancellor:
    • Jade mistakes Chaktar for working with the kidnappers after seeing a tattoo on his neck like theirs. She's wrong as the kidnappers have dragon tattoos while Chaktar's tattoo is that of a monkey whose hand looks like a dragon's head with its mouth open.
    • Played straight with another servant who finds serving the king to be beneath him and wants to use the Tangra crown jewels to fund an elite training army to take over. Also, he detests children.
  • Good All Along: The episode is framed in a way to make it look like Chaktar is in cahoots with the kidnappers. When Jackie sets out to find Lili, Chaktar says he "must inform the others" and we cut to the kidnappers receiving a message. When Lili and Jade are found playing baseball, he takes out a phone to tell of Lili's current position in Bayview Stadium right before the kidnappers appear. After Lili is kidnapped, the kidnappers tell Chaktar to come alone with the crown. Another servant (the true defector) says they can't give up the jewels while Chaktar scolds him for thinking of mere baubles when a boy's life is at stake making him appear too agreeable to the ransom. Finally, Jade sees a tattoo on Chaktar's neck resembling the kidnappers' tattoos. Despite all these signs, Chaktar was loyal to Lili all along.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: King Lili doesn't enjoy royalty and wishes to live like a normal child riding trolleys and playing baseball.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Chaktar doesn't care how boring Lili's life is, only making him study, keep his public appointments, and always asks the royal chefs to prepare broccoli stew despite Lili's distaste for it. However, he does all this out of genuine concern, even valuing his life over the Crown Jewels.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Jade realizes that she's not that all different with the King when it comes to taking things that don't belong to them.
  • See the Invisible: After Jade lets Lili hold the snake talisman and teaches him how to use it, he uses it to sneak onboard a trolley. She buys a soda from a passenger. who warns her that it's warm, shakes it and sprays Lili.
  • A Taste of Their Own Medicine: This time, it's Jade's turn to be ditched by a kid she's looking after.
