"right-hand man" contains examples of:
- all lowercase letters: Like every other chapter title of this fic, this chapter's title is in all lowercase letters.
- Artistic License – History: Acknowledged in the author’s notes that the fic incarnation of John Mott is married at the time of the Delaware crossing, but his real-life self wasn’t.
- Bilingual Backfire: Lafayette and Alexander are talking about Aaron in French, not knowing he speaks French until he responds to them in French himself. Downplayed since they're his friends and weren't trash-talking him, and Invoked since he didn’t tell either of them he spoke French “so that he could catch [them] doing precisely this.“
- Content Warnings: There’s one before the start of the chapter for alcohol mention and use in the second and third sections of the chapter.
- Drunken Song: Aaron usually doesn’t drink. He gets drunk in this chapter, and his singing a drinking song with his new friends is used to emphasize that.
