Tropes:

  • The Chessmaster:
    • Baxter; has an IQ of 220, never leaves his home, and loves collecting Love Diamonds.
    • Mickey and Ash play chess; They tie, but Ash wins the tiebreaker games, something Mickey isn't best pleased about.
  • Comically Small Demand: Played With. Albert offers to bribe Cyclops for information on Pinky's whereabouts with £100. Rebuffed due to wanting to save his own skin, Albert tries £150, plus the lunch tab, and Cyclops responds with "I want Pudding" on top of the £150 offered.
  • Guest Star: Bill Bailey as his Recurring Character Cyclops; the information broker.
  • Imagine Spot: Used by Emma to tell a convincing story to Baxter, filled with previous lines the crew had said to make it sound convincing.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: Pinky Byrne, a tracer for Baxter. Immediately lampshaded by Sean, to which Joel tells him of his reputation for getting what he wants, and never disappearing until he gets it.
  • Honour Among Thieves: The Grifters Code; which is when you don't screw over a team member or associate, otherwise you get killed.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: Pinky was once a criminal, but he realised his connections and knowledge from within the criminal underworld could be spent by catching them for clients instead.
  • Implacable Man: Pinky is known by many to be impossible to get rid of. Once he sets his sights on you; he won't stop until he gets what he want.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Pinky Byrne. A tracer hired to find diamonds, he's a ruthless, determined, nasty piece of work. He beats a man and his son into hospital and in his backstory is renowned for cuttting off a grass's wedding tackle and making him eat it. According to Mickey, he persuaded a man to work for him by kidnapping his son, pouring petrol on him and making him speak to his father on the phone while smoking a cigarette. In a light-hearted series, he stands out as the most sinister character - Joel describes him as making The Terminator look like a quitter.
  • The Reveal: Emma was used as a way to get to Baxter, and swapped the Diamond for a fake when telling him about the fake story, intentionally messed up so they'd summon Mickey to the vault, and he'd propose a deal to sell the fake diamond to Halpmen, when in reality, he'd be selling the real Josephine diamond to Halpmen; a rival diamond collector.
  • Safecracking: The vault Baxter uses to store diamonds and artwork is noted to be extremely tricky to crack. It has fingerprint recognition; a failsafe 4-digit code that changes every 30 minutes, and a voice recognition system that can tell the difference between recordings and real vocals.
