"Hold That Tiger" is the second episode of season 1 of Hogan's Heroes.

The POWs smuggle a Tiger tank into the camp to photograph and study it.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Big Damn Kiss: Colonel Hogan and Tiger (disguised as a POW) share one before parting ways at the end, much to Sergeant Schultz's consternation.
Sergeant Schultz: "Colonel Hogan! Colonel Hogan! Kissing prisoners is verboten!"
  • Double Take: Sergeant Schultz does this when he sees Tiger in Barracks 2.
  • First Appearance: Tiger, who becomes a reoccurring ally and Love Interest of Colonel Hogan.
  • Newhart Phonecall: Colonel Klink gets into one with General Hofstader who is demanding the whereabouts of his missing Tiger tank.
Colonel Klink: "General Hofstader, how nice to hear from you! I... Tank? Didn't it come back? I assure you, General Hofstader, I never sent for one! I had nothing to do with it, General Hofstader! I... Where is it now? Well, you see, General Hofstader, it was here last night. And then we had an escape, except it wasn't really an escape. And when we came to look for the tank, well, it, uh-" [Colonel Klink winces and holds the phone away from his ear as General Hofstader yells at him from the other end]
Colonel Klink: [Reluctantly returns the phone to his ear]: "No, General Hofstader! There's no need for you to come here, General Hofstader! The tank will be found immediately, General Hofstader! Jawohl, General Hofstader!"
  • Oh, Crap!: Colonel Klink has this when an angry General Hofstader arrives with his staff at Stalag 13 demanding the return of his Tiger tank.
Colonel Klink: "General Hofstader! How nice to see you!"
General Hofstader: [sternly] "Where is my tank, Klink?"
General Hofstader: "Klink, I release a tank to you to put down a riot by prisoners. I see no riot! I see no tank! All I see is a Colonel about to become Corporal!"
Colonel Klink: "But, General Hofstader, we've searched the grounds, the barracks, the prisoners-"
General Hofstader: [sarcastically] "The prisoners? No one had it in his pocket?! We are talking about a Tiger tank, Klink! Not a toy dump truck!"
  • Tanks, but No Tanks: The "Tiger tank" featured in the episode is actually an American M7 Priest self-propelled howitzer painted up in German colors to represent a generic German armored fighting vehicle. This will not be the only time the show is guilty of this.
  • Wolf Whistle: The prisoners of Barracks 2 give these out when the Underground agent "Tiger" turns out to be a woman.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Colonel Hogan has this reaction when he learns that the Underground has sent a woman agent into a POW camp full of men.
