Study Date

Original air date: 3/19/2010 (sneak peak on iTunes), 4/4/2010 (Disney Channel Premiere)

In the Pilot Episode to Good Luck Charlie, Amy Duncan returns to work as a nurse after spending nine months taking care of their new baby daughter Charlie, and asks her husband Bob to stay home to watch her. But when he slips and falls down the stairs, he leaves Teddy in charge of Charlie while PJ drives Bob to the hospital. Which is bad timing as she was having a study date with her date Spencer at the house.

Oh, right and Gabe is here, I guess.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Almost Kiss: At least half a dozen between Teddy and Spencer.
  • Bookends: The episode begins and ends with Teddy filming a video diary for Charlie.
  • Brutal Honesty: When Gabe is asked to say something to Charlie in Teddy's video diary, Gabe drops this line:
    Gabe: You ruined my life.
  • Credits Gag: The credits show PJ giving a sponge bath to the hairy guy seen earlier in the hospital, using a fake hand as he doesn't want to touch the man's hairy back.
  • Intoxication Ensues: Bob returns from the emergency room, having been administered some crazy powerful pain pills. He shakes Teddy's hand (believing her to be her study date, Spencer), kisses Spencer goodnight (believing him to be Teddy), and derives an unlimited amount of amusement value from the word "coccyx".
  • Loophole Abuse: Amy is going to the hospital for the first time since Charlie's birth and orders everyone to stay home and cater to her while she is away, which forces Teddy to cancel her study date with Spencer at the library. However, Teddy decides to take advantage of this statement and realizes Amy didn't tell her to cancel the date altogether, so she moves the date to the Duncan house and studies with Spencer in the living room.
  • Slow "NO!": Occurs when Bob sends Charlie flying through the air. The entire family participates... well, except for Gabe, who's immersed in his sandwich. He gets a Slow Mmm.
  • Title Drop: Aside from the ending of the episode, Amy tells this to Charlie before she leaves for work.
  • The Unfavorite: Gabe, best seen as his Establishing Character Moment has him being forgotten by Teddy in her introduction to the family in her video diary and even where the rest of the family forgets to feed him.

Meet the Duncans

The series premiere to Good Luck Charlie begins with Teddy making a video diary entry for her baby sister, Charlie, and to introduce her family, starting with Amy, who she says is looking "lovely" even though he's covered in Charlie's food and tries to feed Charlie sweet peas, then she tries them herself, but ends up vomiting them back into the bowl, her brother, PJ, working on homework at the last minute, as usual, their father Bob getting ready for work as an exterminator, and forgetting Gabe, and lying that she saved the best for last, and Gabe tells Charlie through the video camera that she "ruined his life."

How well does it match the trope?
