Recap / Fullmetal Alchemist E 10 The Phantom Thief

Go To

Arriving in the town of Aquorya, the Elric brother discover the place is being robbed by the audacious thief "Psiren," who boldly announces her targets prior to stealing them while constantly evading the police.

  • Anti-Villain: Clara is hardly bad given the setting. She's a goofy thief who keeps her dying town entertained with her heists and beyond that her villainy consists of comically injuring the police or Ed.
  • Classy Cat-Burglar: Psiren/Clara is a charming thief who wins the hearts of the townspeople with the excitement she gives them and even graciously gives Ed info she has on the Philosopher's Stone once he's beaten her.
  • Consummate Liar: The overly-naive Al falls for Clara's constant claims to be using her profits to save various organizations... only for them to be torn down while she just take the money for herself.
  • Dying Town: Later in the episode, a local reveals to Elric brothers that Aquorya is more or less this trope. As a town infamous for gradually sinking into the ocean, tourists started staying away from the city and residents began to move away. Aquorya would've been doomed to go out with a whimper, if not for Clara attracting tourists with her famed robberies.
  • Expy: The Detective who arrests Ed is one for Inspector Zenigata and Inspector Gadget.
  • Filler: Made before the 2003 anime diverged from the original source, this episode served to allow the manga to catch up before the show Overtook the Manga.
  • Karma Houdini: After Ed assists in arresting Clara, the ending shows her breaking out of police custody to flee into the night.
  • Like Parent, Like Spouse: A platonic variation. Al took an instant liking to Clara when he saw her cutting apples for an elderly woman, just like how their late mother used to cut apples for the brothers.
