Recap / Full House S 8 E 22 All Stood Up

Go To

"All Stood Up" is an episode in the eighth season of Full House.

Stephanie takes a liking to a boy and asks him out, but trouble ensues when the boy in question stands her up, leading to Danny stepping in. Meanwhile, Jesse enlists Joey's help after Kimmy interrupts his peace and quiet with her playing the bagpipes, which escalates quickly; and Michelle is determined to get even with D.J. after D.J. tricks her into doing the chores D.J. herself is supposed to be doing.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • The Bet: The subplot between D.J. and Michelle in this episode is full of wagers between the two of them, with the loser having to do the chores the winner would be doing.
    • First, D.J. tricks Michelle into playing a game against her, with the loser having to do dishes. D.J. wins.
      Michelle: You tricked me!
      D.J.: Don't forget to dry.
    • Then, Michelle challenges D.J. with hula hoop, saying the loser would have to feed Comet. D.J. wins again.
Michelle: [walks into the kitchen with Comet] What'll it be, Comet? Kibbles or bits?
    • The last bet (double or nothing) between them ends with Michelle being the winner. The contest of choice? A limbo game.
Danny: [walks into the living room after Michelle already left] Did I just hear limbo music?
D.J.: What you heard was the end of an era.
  • Escalating War: One that pits Jesse against Kimmy due to Kimmy playing bagpipes right when Jesse wishes for peace and quiet in the backyard, and it takes Rebecca mediating between them before they call it a truce.
  • Everything's Louder with Bagpipes: Jesse certainly feels this way, as he literally falls off the hammock he's resting in at the sound of Kimmy playing bagpipes, especially given how sudden such sounds erupt.
  • Graceful Loser: When Michelle finally wins the ongoing bet against DJ via taking advantage of D.J.'s height with a limbo contest.
D.J.: Michelle, that was sneaky and underhanded. I've taught you well. Congratulations. [shakes hands with Michelle]
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Two of the contests between D.J. and Michelle end with the loser conceding defeat after realizing she can't match the other in the contest of choice. Michelle gives up upon seeing D.J.'s skill with hula hoop that she lacks, and D.J. does so after realizing Michelle has the advantages of shorter height and a more limber body in a limbo game.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: "All Stood Up" is this trope to "All Shook Up", a song performed by Elvis Presley.
  • Prank Date: The "deliberate no-show" variety takes place twice in this episode. The boy Stephanie fancies stands Stephanie up, and then Stephanie returns the favor in kind later on. It's only at the end of the episode that they finally go on a date for real.
  • Real Men Eat Meat: Joey proves himself a meat-lover once more, as illustrated when Danny shows Stephanie and Gia a box he takes out of Joey's room for a food donation charity early in the episode. Said box contains dozens of cans of Spam meat.
  • Security Cling: Late in the episode, Rebecca convinces Jesse and Kimmy for a truce with each other to help Jesse keep his blood pressure low. Kimmy agrees, but only on condition that Jesse gives her a hug, which Jesse obliges, if reluctantly. The hug is broken up at once when an ostrich Kimmy keeps in her yard turns up, and Jesse calls Rebecca for emotional support, only to grab onto Joey because he's distracted by the ostrich, requiring Joey to point to Rebecca's location for Jesse.
  • Tempting Fate:
    • Jesse comments on the quiet moment he gets to relish while lying in the hammock... right before the sudden sounds of Kimmy playing bagpipes shocks him into falling out of the hammock.
    • When Michelle comes with a "double or nothing" challenge, D.J. expresses confidence that there's nothing Michelle can beat her with... until they enter the living room, where Nicky and Alex have set up the device for the limbo game, leaving D.J. with a nervous Oh, Crap! expression.
      D.J.: Michelle, that's not fair.
Michelle: That's the beauty of it.
