The friends go to the beach for the weekend. Joey tries to get everyone to play strip poker, Phoebe meets someone who used to know her parents, Chandler tries to get Monica to admit that he is boyfriend material, and Ross and Rachel flirt.

- Beach Bury: After Joey passes out the gang bury him in the sand covering the floor of the beach house. They even shape the sand to look like a mermaid body. When he wakes up Joey is annoyed until he realises they placed his hands so he's cupping the mermaid's breasts, to which he nods approvingly.
- Beach Episode: Subverted. It's pouring rain and the gang are forced to stay indoors.
- Cliffhanger: Phoebe discovers that Phoebe Abbott is her biological mother while Ross, torn between staying with Bonnie or getting back together with Rachel, enters one of the women's rooms, but it remains ambiguous whose room he entered.
- Fallback Marriage Pact: When Monica wonders if she'll ever find a boyfriend again Chandler offers to date her if she can't find anyone. She laughs off the offer so he spends the rest of the episode trying to convince her he's "boyfriend material".
- The Hilarity of Hats: Rachel dons a giant sunhat that Ross gave her when they were dating. The gang think it looks ridiculous, and Chandler compares it to a spaceship.Rachel: Well excuse me, my fashion-impaired friends, I am here to tell you that hats are back.
Phoebe: And this time, they've ganged up to form one giant, super hat. - I Need a Freaking Drink: When Phoebe first introduces herself to Phoebe Abbott the latter offers to make sangria. At first it seems like just a quirky suggestion she makes due to the surprise, but considering she's later revealed to be Phoebe's biological mother it seems more like she's suggesting alcohol to calm her own nerves.
- Luke, I Am Your Father: Abbott finds Phoebe's thirst for knowledge uncanny and reveals a very important secret to her - she is, in fact, her birth mother.
- Ms. Fanservice: When Bonnie finds out the others are playing Strip Poker she decides to "catch up" by stripping down to her bra. She's later seen in a bikini top and shorts after going to the beach.
- Strip Poker: Joey spends most of the episode trying to get the gang to play. They finally agree but there isn't a deck of cards in the house, so they have to substitute a Happy Days board game. One cut later and Joey is down to his underwear while the rest of the gang (save Monica who's missing her pants) are still fully dressed.
- Wham Line: Phoebe Abbott to Phoebe Buffay: "I'm your mother".
