Go To

Pete won't give up on being the ultimate fighting champion, but he's so bad at it that Monica can't stand to watch him get hurt and breaks up with him. Chandler's boss keeps slapping him on his butt. Ross dates Bonnie, a friend of Phoebe's who used to be bald.

Tropes

  • As Himself: Pete's first opponent in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, "Tank" Abbott plays himself.
  • The Cameo: The cold open sees Robin Williams and Billy Crystal make an appearance in Central Perk. The scene was not part of the original script, the pair happened to be filming on a nearby set and the producers immediately invited them to make an appearance.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Every one of Pete's UFC battles puts him on the losing side of this trope. His opponents make incredibly short work of him with the second bout lasting roughly fifteen seconds.
  • The Determinator: Pete may end up losing every fight he takes part in, but the fact that he keeps trying deserves some credit. Although he should probably leave a bigger gap between fights.
  • Detrimental Determination: Pete's refusal to back down leads to him being repeatedly injured and ultimately costs him his relationship with Monica.
  • Flirtatious Smack on the Ass: Well, not technically flirtatious but Doug does use smacking someone on the ass to express his favoritism among his employees. Chandler asks him to stop because his co-workers are getting jealous of never getting the smack of approval. Doug eventually starts doing it to all of them. Joey compares it to how football players will slap each other the same way and demonstrates on Ross (who doesn't appear to appreciate it).
  • Groin Attack: According to the commentary of Pete's last fight (heard during the end credits) he's on the receiving end of a particularly nasty one of these which prompts a joke from Ross about how Pete probably won't be able to have kids anymore.
Commentator: Uh-oh, Bruiser has Becker on the canvas and is going for his favorite area.
Phoebe: Wait, if that's his favorite area, why is he being so mean to it?
Ross: (to Monica) Well, this is ironic. Of your last two boyfriends, Richard didn't want to have kids, and from the looks of it, now Pete can't.
