• An Aesop: Listen to your friends and be trustworthy. If you disobey them, always tell the truth.
• Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Fanboy has a nightmare where he's attacked by a giant Chum Chum who's furious over the broken ninja.
• Bait-and-Switch: "I got a cardboard box. A cardboard box from the...Toyco Toy Company!" Doubles as foreshadowing as mentioned below.
• Bottle Episode: Set entirely at the Fanlair. Crossed with Minimalist Cast as shown below.
• Forbidden Fruit: The Ultra Ninja. Subverted in that Chum Chum was going to give it to Fanboy and only wanted the box, but Fanboy couldn't keep his hands, or sight, away from it.
• Foreshadowing: There are several hints at the beginning that Chum Chum only wanted the box the Ultra Ninja came in and planned on giving it to Fanboy.
  • When Chum Chum gets his mail, he says, "I got a cardboard box. A cardboard box from the...Toyco toy company."
  • He doesn't mention the Ultra Ninja by name when asking him to be careful.
  • Chum Chum sounds confused when Fanboy asks to see the Ultra Ninja, so he holds up the box with the ninja in it before him.
  • When he’s worried it will break, he doesn't take the ninja out of the box when he protects it.
• Honesty Aesop: The whole point of the episode. Subverted in that Chum Chum didn't want the ninja at all; he was giving Fanboy the toy and only wanted the box.
• Injured Limb Episode: Chum Chum's arm gets stretched out when doing the super shake of trust, thus he has to go to the hospital and get his arm bone reset.
• Minimalist Cast: The only characters present are the titular duo, and the entire episode is in the Fanlair, no place more.
• My God, What Have I Done?: Fanboy repeatedly after he breaks the Ultra Ninja.
• Nightmare Sequence: Fanboy has a Godzilla-sque nightmare where a giant Chum Chum punishes him for breaking the toy.
• Overly Long Gag: Fanboy shouting, "AAH! WHAT HAVE I DONE?!" over and over after breaking the Ultra Ninja.
• Secret Handshake: Both FB and CC have a variation called the super shake of trust.
• "Shaggy Dog" Story: It turns out Chum Chum didn't really want the Ultra Ninja - he was giving it to Fanboy. He only wanted the box the ninja came in.
• Shout-Out: Fanboy's Nightmare Sequence is a complete parody of Godzilla - Chum Chum acting as a giant and all, along with similar background music.
