Peter, Cleveland and Quagmire decide to participate in the newly announced Quahog Bull Run, but are reluctant to include Joe due to his handicap. Meanwhile, Brian meets a new lover at the local car wash, only to discover that she's actually married to an extremely ill-tempered Navy SEAL, forcing him to pretend he's a normal dog to avoid retribution.
Tropes:
- Accidental Adultery: At first, since Brian didn't know that Tori was married when he met her. Averted later on, when he had no qualms with continuing the affair even after being aware that Tori is married.
- Bedlam House: The "State Home for Mentals and Bastards" that Peter, Cleveland, and Quagmire send Joe to is shown to be this, as the patients are abused and many of them run loose through the facility. Peter refers to it as a "smelly home for the goofy".
- Confidentiality Betrayal: When Joe is sent to an insane asylum, Peter, Cleveland, and Quagmire come to visit. When speaking with him, a seemingly insane patient runs up to them and yells "YOUR MOTHER'S A WHORE!" Joe responds, completely deadpan, "I told you that in confidence, Gary".
- Dirty Coward: Tori abandons both Vic and Brian when the former becomes suspicious of the affair to avoid the repercussions.
- Furry Reminder: Lampshaded by Stewie when he sees Brian chained up in Vic's yard, and say it's funny how Brian still acts like he's a human being despite being treated like a dog.
- Lack of Empathy: Bonnie upon hearing that Joe will require even more extensive care (most of it disgusting), feels no sympathy and leaves Joe to his fate, taking Suzy with her to Europe and asking Lois to collect her mail forever.
- Laser-Guided Karma: Brian gets hit with it after he pretends to be Vic and Tori's dog just so he can continue sleeping with her. He ends up stuck with Vic who discovers the affair but not the identity of the guy, Tori leaves and he fears for his life until Chris and Stewie come save him in the end.
- Napoleon Delusion: When Peter, Quagmire, and Cleveland wonder if leaving Joe at the asylum was the right thing to do, Peter said that it was because "Napoleon Bonaparte was there" and the French would never let their leader run around the place in stained underwear trying to stab people if the place wasn't nice.
- Not What I Signed on For: Said by Bonnie nearly word-for-word when she decides to leave Joe for a life in Europe taking Suzy with her.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
- Brian says this when Tori and Vic start having sex, he then tries to leave but is caught by Vic.
- Also Bonnie leaves for Europe after hearing that Joe was crippled worse and will require even more extensive care, taking baby Suzy with her. She is not shown returning even after Joe regains use of his upper body.
- Sympathetic Adulterer: Played with and eventually averted with Tori. She at first seemed to have had a bad marriage but is eventually revealed to be a callous slut and Karma Houdini that leaves both Vic and Brian in the end.
- The Unfair Sex: Not only does Tori cheat on her husband Vic with Brian (a dog), she tricks him into thinking that he is just their new pet. She also abandons Brian as soon as Vic becomes suspicious.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: Bonnie doesn't return at the end of the episode when Joe recovers from his injury. Though she is back with him the next time we see her.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Lois calls Peter and the guys out for sending Joe to the state home just so that they could stop having to take care of him.
- Your Mom: A mental patient screams at Joe that his mother's a whore, to which Joe points out that he told him that in confidence.
