Fishlegs discovers that his family used to be dragon hunters, who hunted the Dramillion species of dragon to near-extinction. He sets out to discover whether any of them still exist, and comes across something altogether more horrific.
Tropes:
- All According to Plan: It is implied that Fishlegs planned to have the kids wreak havoc on Snotlout and the twins.
- All Your Powers Combined: The Dramillions can replicate the Breath Weapon of any dragon they come across. With the blast of a Nadder and the blast of a Gronckle they can destroy dragon proof metal.
- Anti-Climax: Gobber warns the children riding with him that his dragon, Grump, always goes for hard landings… and then he lands gently on Dragon's Edge.
- Cassandra Truth: Fishlegs, disgusted by what the Loyal Order of Ingerman has done, attempts to order them to stop by revealing he is the descendant of their founder. None of the dragon hunters believe him. Despite idolizing Fishlegs' ancestor, none of them have actually ever met the Ingermans, so how would they know who is a descendant?
- The Hedge of Thorns: Thinking the kids ran away through a bush of stickle-thorns, the twins proceed to force their way through it, receiving dozens of painful scratches in the process. Snotlout then quietly walks around it through poison oak.
- Merit Badges for Everything: The Dragon Explorers have a badge system for achievements, each badge named after a dragon with the Gronkle Badge being the highest (since Fishlegs was the one who started the group in the first place).
- Scout-Out: The Dragon Explorers is a ubiquitous institution made by Fishlegs as a means of preparing Berk's next generation of dragon riders, teaching them about dragons and rewarding them through a badge system.
- Sins of the Father: A central theme of the episode. Fishlegs feels immense guilt for his ancestors wiping the Dramillions to near extinction while his friends say it's not his fault.
- So Proud of You: When the kids nearly demolish Snotlout's hut with zippleback gas, the twins could not be more proud of them.
