Recap / Dragon Tales S 1 E 33

Go To

Airdate: April 19th, 2000

Emmy isn't sure Max will be tall enough to ride the Bumper Cars at Funland, so they go to Dragon Land and practice Kickball to pass the time. But when they get themselves shrunken by "Shrinking Violets", they must find a way to get their dragon friends to notice them so they can get them big again.

"Small Time" contains examples of:

  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Once the dragons arrive at the Shrinking Violets' patch, they are confused about only finding the kids' backpacks right by the flowerbeds. They realize what happened when Wheezie finds Emmy's kickball that also shrunk.
Cassie: It's kinda funny Emmy and Max aren't here yet. They always come when we call for them.
Ord: That's weird. You wouldn't think they'd only send her backpack. (holds up Emmy's backpack)
Zak: Huh? How come Emmy's backpack is here?
    Wheezie: And Emmy isn't?
Cassie: Where'd you find that, Ord?
    Ord: Right beside these flowers.
Cassie: Careful, Ord, those are shrinking violets. When they bloom, they shrink anything they touch!
Ord: (pulling his finger away) Oh!
Wheezie: Hey, what's this? (picks up the shrunken kickball) I found a marble that looks like a dragon ball.
Cassie: Say, that looks just like Emmy's kickball. It must've shrunk. [gasps] What if Max and Emmy touched the Shrinking Violets?
Zak: Well, then they'd shrink down to teeny, tiny... OH, NO! They shrunk!
  • Fantastic Flora: The Shrinking Violets are this.
  • Incredible Shrinking Man: What happens to Max and Emmy when they touch the Shrinking Violets.
  • Plant Person: Not only do the Shrinking Violets shrink anyone and anything they touch when in bloom, they talk.

Wheezie is excited to ride the Roller Coaster Dragon, but the ride fills right before she gets on and the next ride won't be for ten minutes. It's up to the others to keep Wheezie busy while she waits her turn.

"Roller Coaster Dragon" contains examples of:

  • Comically Missing the Point:
Wheezie: I want to ride the roller coaster sooooo bad, I can taste it!
Ord: Hmmm, really? What's it taste like?
Cassie: That's just an expression, Ord!
Ord: Ohhh... what's an expression taste like?
  • Here We Go Again!: After Max and Emmy return home, their mom calls them she's going to get dinner and ice cream and will be back in fifteen minutes. They decide to draw pictures while they wait, but they end up drawing an ice cream cone, making them crave the ice cream and scream for mom, only to realize she left and will have to wait.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: At the concession stand, Wheezie urges the six-armed dragon to make the other customers' food as fast as possible. To this, he retorts "Do I look like an octopus kid? I only have six arms." Although that should be grounds enough to make food faster than if he had only two arms, he still shrugs it off and continues working at his own pace.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: The next ride for the Roller Coaster Dragon isn't for ten minutes, which is the average length of an episode but one minute short.
  • Overly Long Gag: Ord indecisively ordering snacks at the Snack Shack.
  • Thought-Aversion Failure: Wheezie declares that she will not think about the Roller Coaster Dragon. She repeats this to herself a couple of times before breaking down, asking how she can not think about the Roller Coaster Dragon by thinking about not thinking about it.

Thinking About Not Thinking...

In "Roller Coaster Dragon" from "Dragon Tales," Wheezie really wants to ride the roller coaster dragon and doesn't feel like she can wait in line any longer. She decides to try not think about it, but chanting that she's not, but as she quickly realizes, this is just a surefire away to end up thinking about it.

How well does it match the trope?
