Season 2, Episode 3:

Call from the Dead

With Homura captured, the kingdom of science finally succeeds in setting up a hotline with their spies in Tsukasa’s empire. Meanwhile, Chrome's group runs into some trouble.

Feats of Science:

  • Clock spring. To upgrade the record player.
  • Chrome lights dry brush on fire with a battery.

Tropes:

  • America Saves the Day. As a gambit.
  • Bathos: During their tear-filled reunion, Taiju becomes incoherent with emotion:
Taiju: I am... Senku. I am... Senku. I am... Senku.
Senku: No you're not, 'cause I'm Senku. Get it together!
  • Big Damn Reunion: Radio version.
  • Blunt "Yes": Senku refuses to lie about whether other records survived.
  • Groupie: Just their luck - the first person they try to recruit with a fake celebrity is a superfan.
  • Pinned Down: Stone World edition. Ukyo is such a marksman and has such good senses that Chrome's group knows they're toast if they reveal themselves.
  • The Power of Rock: The fake Lillian doesn't fool Nikki, but hearing the real Lillian's recorded voice convinces her to switch sides.
  • Translation Convention: "Lillian" speaks in English, with "Sebastian" translating into Japanese. In most dubs, she speaks in English (with an accent that wouldn't fool any American) and the "Japanese" is the language of the dub. But for the English dub, they avoid translation entirely, making Senku a hype man instead of a translator. Then for the rest of the conversation, they forget about the translation, and "Lillian" speaks in Japanese.
  • True Companions: Even after a year, Taiju has such faith in Senku that he doesn't need the details of the plan.
  • We Need a Distraction: How Gen escapes when the trio is pinned down by Ukyo.
