Recap / Donkey Kong Country S 1 E 20 Bug A Boogie

Go To

When Klump steals Diddy's banana-shaped walk talky, Diddy pranks the crocs by sending them a fake message about a 'secret treasure' he and DK found. Annoyed with their tomfoolery, Cranky sends the two apes into the woods on a fake errand, unaware that Skurvy's pirates are sailing towards the island.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: When Funky reveals that the so called "Evil Amulet" DK and Diddy found was a hood ornament he lost, Cranky cracks up, stating, "Don't you get it? Now the joke's on us!"
  • Adaptational Explanation: According to D.K. in the "Legend of the Crystal Coconut" VHS, the pirates took off running thanks to Diddy's Bog Monster impression and K. Rool being an unknowing and unwilling help. But he knew K. Rool and the pirates were too stubborn to call it quits.
  • Easily-Overheard Conversation: Klump tries to invoke this trope by stealing Diddy's banana-phone. How well it works differs all throughout the episode.
  • Given Name Reveal: Skurvy addresses Kutlass and Green Kroc by name for the first time herenote . He would later make clearer which one is which in "Ape-Nesia".
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Invoked by Funky, who points out that Cranky's Snipe Hunt will backfire on him. He's vindicated when Cranky realizes that the pirates are on the island, and he just sent DK far away from the Crystal Coconut.
  • Mucking in the Mud: The Forbidden Forest has a number of muddy puddles. Klump and Krusha have ended up neck deep in one when K. Rool tries to contact them. K. Rool later walks into one while gloating to Donkey Kong and doesn't realize until too late he's sunk into it, allowing DK to just swipe the Crystal Coconut off him.
  • Poke the Poodle: DK's initial suggestion for pranking the gators as payback for swiping their banana radio was simply to call them...and then hang up once they answered. Diddy knows that won't be sufficient karma and opts for the "secret treasure" prank.
  • Real After All: After all of Diddy and Cranky's insistence that there is no Bog Monster, a monstrous screeching roar leaves K. Rool, Klump, and Krusha staring in terror at the episode's end.
  • Snipe Hunt: After DK and Diddy Kong prank K. Rool and his cronies into thinking the object they found was an Ancient Artifact of ultimate power, Cranky Kong tells them that it's actually an Artifact of Doom that they need to get rid of lest they be cursed all as a way to teach them not to go pulling pranks.
  • Villain Song: "Booty Boogie" sung by the pirates.
  • Warning Song: "The Big Bog Monster" is sung by DK to warn Diddy about the alleged Bog Monster that scared him when he was younger.
