Recap / Dinotrux S 04 E 04 Ton Ton And Skrap It

Go To

When the gang becomes trapped under an especially large ore deposit, it's up to Ton-Ton to figure out a way to save the day, a task which is not helped when the interference of Skrap-It leads to the two of them stranded together in a lava river.

Tropes:

  • Boring, but Practical: Throughout the episode Skrap-It keeps trying to take Ton-Ton's bed, under the desire to acquire it and all the scrap metal he's carrying. He seems to eventually realize this is a highly impractical plan and since D-Structs wants him to scrap just anything from a Dinotrux, he eventually settles for something so small it won't be noticed right away.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: When Ton-Ton & Skrap-It devise their first escape plan, it's Skrap-It that says "Let's Trux it up!" Given his previously expressed fondness for the phrase, he's likely excited to get to use it for real.
  • Brief Accent Imitation: Ton-Ton mocks Skrap-It's tic when they are arguing.
Skrap-It: YOU! This is all *cchh* YOUR fault!
Ton-Ton: ME? This is all *cchh* YOUR fault!
  • Commonality Connection: Ton-Ton & Skrap-It bond over their feelings regarding their respective T-Truxes.
    Skrap-It: Lot of work being a T-Trux.
    Ton-Ton: Oh, I know, I'm friends with a T-Trux, too.
    Skrap-It: It's pretty great, right?
Ton-Ton: It's the coolest! But then you're always worried that you're gonna let them down.
Skrap-It: That you're messing everything up.
Ton-Ton: That nobody believes in you...
    (Ton-Ton & Skrap-It both sigh)
  • Crazy Enough to Work: Both Ton-Ton & Skrap-It lament that their plans generally end up being too crazy to work, which leads to Ton-Ton to suggest that their combined crazy could add up to a plan crazy enough to actually work.
  • A Day in the Limelight: As the name implies, this episode is one for Ton-Ton & Skrap-It.
  • Don't Explain the Joke: Though Ton-Ton does think the joke is funny once it has been explained to him.
Skrap-It: Well I just can't hang around here with you all day. (beat) Hey, did you get that? I meant because we really are hanging here? From the spring, I mean.
Ton-Ton: Ohhhh! That's really funny! But I'm not gonna laugh because then you'd win.
  • Enemy Mine: With their survival at stake, Ton-Ton & Skrap-It have no choice but to work together.
  • Letting the Air out of the Band: When Ton-Ton & Skrap-It come up with a plan to escape dangling over a lava pit from a giant spring by building a giant straw with a propeller and saw blade, the build music starts up, but quickly stops as they realize;
Ton-Ton: Oh yeah, we don't really have the stuff to make any of that.
  • Inevitable Waterfall: Ton-Ton & Skrap-It manage to find themselves heading for a lava variant of this.
  • Sleepwalking: Skrap-It apparently has a tendency to Sleep-Scrap, and D-Structs gets mad at him when Skrap-It Sleep-Scraps his guard rail.
  • Spring Coil: Desperately looking for anything that could save the others, Ton-Ton settles on a giant metal spring. While it does manage to be the key to saving the day in the end, its cumbersome size and springy nature leads it to cause about as many problems as it resolves.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: D-Structs wants to see if Skrap-It can retrieve a piece of scrap from one of the Trux, so Skrap-It makes several attempts to scrap Ton-Ton while they are working together. Ton-Ton has to force Skrap-It to promise to stop trying to double cross him and he only does it under duress, and even then he still manages to scrap Ton-Ton when he isn't looking.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: D-Structs gives Skrap-It an easy task suited to his skills, just to see if he can do it. He even lets Skrap-It keep the piece he scrapped, since he didn't really need it for anything.
