Produced 2006, aired in U.S. on 7/11/07

Production order: 41 (3-4)

Vlad releases a dangerous ghost called Vortex to control the weather of Amity Park and improve his ratings. Vortex soon goes rogue, forcing Vlad to get Danny to deal with him. During the first fight, Danny's powers get merged with Vortex's weather manipulation, causing him to produce storms whenever he experiences strong emotions. So now, Team Phantom must find a way to fix this while dealing with Vortex.

Tropes:

  • Chekhov's Gun: The VR helmet Tucker has and tries to give Danny at the start. He uses it to help Danny control his emotions by sending images into it to make him feel a certain way and attack Vortex properly with his weather power.
  • Dirty Coward: Vlad begs Danny for his help and takes him to Vortex... then Vlad leaves Danny to deal with Vortex by himself.
    Danny: My hero.
  • Enemy Mine: Played with. Vlad barely contributes much in fighting Vortex, only really doing so when Vortex becomes vulnerable to deal with, and ultimately leaving it to Danny in the end.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Vlad once more tries to use a powerful ghost for his own ends, and it once again backfires.
  • Empathic Environment: After his first battle with Vortex, Danny unintentionally absorbed his weather powers linked to his emotions. Whenever Danny gets emotional, the weather gets rough and usually changes based on his mood (tornadoes when angry, monsoons when sad, and a sunny day when happy). He gets better after his second battle with Vortex.
  • Idiot Ball: Vlad thinking it's a great idea to get Vortex, a very volatile weather-controlling ghost, to control the weather to help his ratings with the people of Amity Park. Unsurprisingly, control slips from Vlad, and he's forced to go to Danny for help. You'd think he'd learn after Reign Storm.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Tucker makes one at the end of the episode. Danny and Sam aren't amused, so Tucker uses his VR helmet to create a scenario where they laugh at his dumb joke.
  • No Endor Holocaust: Although we see a few damaged buildings in Amity Park, there's no widespread collateral damage from Vortex's weather. There aren't even any casualties.
  • Stealing the Credit: Danny beats Vortex, but Vlad steals the credit and blames Danny Phantom for the weather attacks as well.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After three seasons of several failed attempts, Danny finally masters duplication. Unfortunately, it is useless against Vortex’s weather controlling powers.
  • You Won't Like Me When I'm Angry: Danny was initially not too keen with the idea of Vlad keeping him under check to ensure his moods don't wreak havoc on Amity Park. He then considers that Vlad'll have to do whatever he says if he doesn't want him angry. He instead uses his weather abilities to make Vlad look like a well-deserved Butt-Monkey.
