Hippolyta visits town, and Diana is desperate to win her approval; when Hippolyta unexpectedly takes a shine to Kara, Diana must curb her envy before they all get hurt.
- Affectionate Nickname: Kara gives Hippolyta the nickname "Polly"
- Calling the Old Woman Out: Diana finally stands up to her mother for her ridiculously high standards.
- Emotion Eater: Lyssa feeds off Diana's envious desire for her mother's approval.
- Funny Background Event: While Kara is pondering whether to go with Hippolyta and Diana on a tour of Metropolis, we see Zee Zatara and Barbara Gordon trying to catch the wild goose Hank with a net. In another scene, the goose now has the net, and quickly scoops up Barbara Gordon with it before being pursued by Jessica Cruz and Karen Beecher.
- Late to the Punchline: At the end of the episode, Hippolyta finally understands Diana's joke about Metropolis's bridges being "arch enemies".
- One-Winged Angel: Once Lyssa consumes enough of Diana’s envy, she turns from her elderly appearance into a gigantic demonic figure strong enough to effortlessly smack around Hippolyta, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl at the same time.
- Spit Take: Diana does this after the hot dog vendor mistakes Kara for Hippolyta's daughter.
- Sympathy for the Hero: Supergirl already sympathized with Wonder Woman but she does even more as Hippolyta continually criticizes Diana while Lyssa is beating them up.
- Truer to the Text: The comic books had always removed Lyssa from Hippolyta's story at the time of this show's airing. Unlike this show, mythological Lyssa did not have any problems with Hippolyta, but Hippolyta would probably have issues with Lyssa for causing many of her problems anyway.
- Twinkle in the Sky: Lyssa once she's defeated, curtesy of Supergirl.
- "Well Done, Daughter!" Girl: The plot of the episode is Diana craving her mother's approval and becoming envious when she'd rather spend time with Kara.
- Wild Goose Chase: Diana sends Kara on one to get her away while Hippolyta visits. It turns out she sent Kara on a LITERAL wild goose chase as Kara returns with a wild goose, who she has named "Hank".
- You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Kara assures Diana that she is already perfect at everything and that it's not her fault if her mother doesn't approve of any of her accomplishments.
