Recap / Code Lyoko S 2 E 18

Go To

Jeremie launches an expedition into Sector 5 again to get more data on how XANA works, the switch being located on the wall closest to Yumi this time around. The Lyoko warriors evade the Creeper laser fire, while Odd uses his wall climbing abilities to disable the timer, but in doing so gets killed after the button is pushed, forcing him back to earth.

They all take the elevator to the computer room where Aelita starts getting to work on securing as much data as possible. Jeremie warns of manta rays spawning, but Ulrich only see's a Creeper, which kills Yumi by surprise. After Aelita gets more data, Ulrich and Aelita ride on the Overbike to escape, who then finally encounter the mmnta rays Jeremie was talking about. It turns out the Manta rays now have mines, and are attempting to despawn the Overbike as they ride it, but Ulrich weaves around them, and Jeremie deactivates a tunnel to escape the sector.

The gang all reconvene on Earth to talk about the data gathered, and Jeremie and Aelita want to go through all of it, while the rest of them go to the Gym to practice wall climbing for an upcoming competition, though Ulrich is reluctant about going. Odd dominates Herve at wall climbing, while Ulrich is challenged by William to try, and Jim eventually forces him to after questioning why he wouldn't want to climb. Ulrich nevertheless bites his tongue on his reasons and climb the wall, getting more and more dizzy, and eventually falls off the wall, much to his embarrassment.

Back at the factory, Jeremie makes an important discovery; some of the code from the latest data dump correlates with code he's had for three weeks, which lets him create an anti-virus. Aelita asks Jeremie to try it out on her after the dry run succeeds, and he reluctantly agrees. After that's all done, Aelita enters the scanner and the process starts. Then an error message comes up on screen, and Jeremie is forced to do a manual override on the doors; by using his hands to open them. Aelita falls into his arms, and Jeremie asks to say something, to which she repeats "something" in response, which Jeremie compares to Odd's same joke. Convinced the antivirus worked, they both go to the school, to tell the others the good news.

Jeremie and Aelita greet Odd and Yumi, who are out looking for Ulrich, and cannot seem to find him. Jeremie guesses that Ulrich is in the forest, and Odd and Yumi go and get him to give him the good news. Aelita starts getting cold flushes and tells Jeremie that she's gonna go to bed for a bit, and she meet Sissi on the way. Sissi berates Aelita about not finding another boy as "Jeremie is married to a computer chip", to which Aelita starts to disappear. She continues to talk about Aelita's supposed Shrinking Violet tendencies, while Aelita herself turns invisible. Aelita runs back to Jeremie, and after figuring out where she is in her room, they both go to the Factory to work out what's gone wrong.

Odd and Yumi find Ulrich in the forest, as Jeremie predicted, and tell him to come to the factory to shut down the supercomputer with them. XANA has possessed a bunch of wolves however, and starts chasing them. At the lab, Jeremie realises that his program was bugged. After hearing the bad news from Ulrich about the wolves situation, Aelita asks Jeremie to let her go to Lyoko alone, as there's no guarantee the others will arrive. Once again, he reluctantly agrees, and transports her to Lyoko, and she arrives successfully. Aelita starts making her way to the tower.

Meanwhile, Ulrich, Yumi and Odd are trying their hardest to get away from the wolf attack, and start to climb a rock face. With some advice from Odd, Ulrich succeeds in climbing up the cliff too, and they all escape the wolves for a while, but are now stranded on top of the cliff.

Aelita makes it to the tower, but just bumps into it, and Jeremie discovers that the reason for this is that her virtual signature was modified when she received the antivirus. Jeremie has to fix the issue, but quickly, as a Schyphozoa is after Aelita. Aelita uses Creativity to freeze the beast for a while, and then uses the power again, to create footholds to the other side of the lake the tower was located in, where she is greeted by Hornets, and is backed into the dethawing Schyphozoa.

A wolf appears atop the cliff, causing Ulrich to fall down and hit a tree branch. Fortunately, they discover some of the wolves are in fact illusions. They decide to split up, and Ulrich is left to fight off the wolves, while Yumi and Odd go to the factory and get virtualised.

Yumi and Odd are on their way to Aelita, but get stopped by a Megatank, who devirtualises the Overwing Yumi was using, and Yumi not long after. Odd manages to defeat it, and makes a beeline for Aelita, but his Overboard also gets destroyed when Hornets shoot at it. Odd reaches the cavern, but there are Hornets guarding the process this time, so he decides to swim under the water to do a surprise attack on the Schyphozoa to free Aelita, which succeeds.

Ulrich is chased to the Factory bridge, and is bitten by a wolf. Jeremie and Yumi watches in desperation via the security cameras, while Jeremie finally fixes the code and disables the antivirus, which lets Aelita into the tower. Ulrich falls off the rope due to his injury, and before the wolves get to him, Aelita deactivates the tower, and the wolves flop over. Yumi requests a return to the past, to which Jeremie agree's, and it travels back to the Gym.

Instead of denying he has vertigo, Ulrich proudly admits this to William, and teases him that it is still better than being afraid of spiders, much to William's embarrassment. The group leaves the Gym, with Odd questioning Aelita what invisibility was like.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Face Your Fears: Ulrich has to do this for his vertigo, and it's one of the rare instances in a kid's show where he still has said fear at the end of the episode. After the time rewind, Ulrich is no longer afraid of telling everyone about his vertigo, especially William.
  • Falling into His Arms: Jeremie does this to Aelita after forcefully opening the scanner room.
  • Foreshadowing: Odd requires climbing up to the switch to disable the timer, which is exactly the fear explored on earth by Ulrich.
  • Gambit Roulette: XANA's plan relies on Ulrich running into the forest and Aelita convincing Jeremie in going to Lyoko alone respectively. Had Jeremie and Aelita waited, the rest of team would've eventually found out that some of the wolves were illusions to beef up the numbers, and would've likely fared better at getting to Lyoko.
  • Harmless Freezing: Aelita uses Creativity to freeze the Schyphozoa temporarily, but it doesn't last long.
  • Hope Spot: When it appears the tower is clear of threats, Aelita attempts to enter the tower, but bumps into it instead. It turns out the antivirus had changed Aelita's virtual signature, meaning she cannot deactivate towers, which leads to the Schyphozoa eventually capturing Aelita.
  • Impairment Shot: Ulrich has this twice; first when climbing on the climbing wall, and the second time by climbing up the rocks in the forest.
  • Invisibility: Aelita has a bug that causes her to go invisible, and the A-plot is figuring out a solution to this. Averted on Lyoko where Aelita is visible, but cannot activate towers.
  • Malevolent Architecture: Sector 5, as usual, though for once, the switch is placed in the wall right behind them, in a place Odd could easily reach.
  • Master of Illusion: XANA uses these skills to make the number of wolves cornering the gang be about three times as many as there actually were. He was hoping the fear of wolves would keep them all back, and it does appear to work for quite some time, until the illusion is shattered by Ulrich falling onto a wolf.
  • My Suit Is Also Super: Aelita's clothes turn invisible with her.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Jeremie attempts to use code borrowed from their latest raid on Sector 5 with the research on his anti-virus on Aelita without doing more than one dry run, mostly because Aelita convinced him to do so to surprise the others. This comes with the problem of Aelita turning invisible, and not being able to deactivate towers.
  • Oh, Crap!: Several in the episode, pretty much everyone has at least one for different reasons:
    • Jeremie pulls one after an error pops up on the scanner when injecting the antivirus, and forcefully opens the scanner doors to get Aelita out.
    • Ulrich does this when climbing.
    • Yumi and Odd both do this when Ulrich falls down the rocks.
    • Odd when he discovers the hornet bodyguarding the Schyphozoa.
  • Thanks for the Mammary: Implied. Jeremie appears to do this with Aelita when she turns invisible and Jeremie tries to feel the air for her presence, and judging by her reaction, accidentally touches her chest while doing so.
  • Shout-Out:
    • William mentions Spider-Man when he and Ulrich are rock climbing.
    • Odd mentions Sue Storm as a comparison to Aelita's temporary invisibility.
  • Savage Wolves: XANA's attack relies on cornering the team in the forest with wolves long enough for Aelita's memories to be extracted.
