Part two of the Live Special of Citation Needed, in which the crew talk about the Ice block expedition of 1959.

Article of Conversation: Ice block expedition of 1959

Tropes:

  • Audience Participation: To settle a points dispute between Gary and Chris for guessing how much water had left the ice when in the Sahara Desert, Gary says "an Nth" (which is undefinable, and therefore encapsulates all possible fractions), while Chris literally says nothing. When Tom asks for a mathematician in the audience, they choose Chris's answer.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: Tom keeps rewarding points for "close enough, but not really" answers, which Gary takes issue with every time Tom does it, culminating in him getting a point for guessing the expedition met the mayor, when the answer was the President of France.
  • Good Angel, Bad Angel: Chris mentions having "two squirrels in his head" giving him answers to Toms question of what the container holding the ice made from.
  • Hiroshima as a Unit of Measure: When asked by Tom as to how much water the expedition lost throughout the whole trip; Chris guesses "a whole camels' worth", and Tom gives him the point because 96 litres "sounds about right".
  • No Sense of Direction: When Tom asks which direction the Ice Block expedition went in the Sahara Desert, Matt says West, which Tom finds to be a strange answer to give, and claims Matt has a bad sense of direction.
  • Pun: Matt making a pun on Charles De Gaulle's name and asking, "if he flew there?".
  • Rule of Cool: Gary admits that a car on fire going through a tunnel would look awesome.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Tom makes a reference to the bulldozer scene from The Italian Job (1969), and then makes a reference to Robot Wars about how driving tests are judged and notes the very different levels of applause for the jokes (the former got 5 people laughing, the latter got the entire crowd to cheer).
    • When Matt answers Tom's question about the expedition's directions once it arrived in North Africa with "Go west", Gary briefly breaks out with a short rendition of the chorus to the Village People song.
    • Matt does the silly walk from Monty Python's Flying Circus when exiting the stage.
