My wife never came home.
-Chuck
Sarah returns to Chuck, believing him to be a rogue agent she's working to bring down. Ellie and Awesome receive some life-changing news.
This episode provides examples of:
- Armor-Piercing Question: Chuck pulls an unconscious Sarah from Ellie's crashed car and puts her in the Nerd Herder, meaning to take her somewhere to jog her memories. Ellie protests, but:Chuck: What if it was Awesome?
- Call-Back:
- Quinn tells an amnesiac Sarah about Langston Graham's death and Bryce's, blaming both on Chuck.
- When Chuck decides to destroy the Intersect once and for all, he mentions the harm it's done, including his father's death, the creation of Alexei Volkov and Morgan's brain melting.
- Sarah breaks into the Intersect room and DARPA using the exact same movements Bryce did in the Pilot.
- Sarah's video log has entries that clearly follow certain episodes from the first season, including the Pilot, Chuch Versus the Truth and Chuck Versus the Imported Hard Salami. There's also an entry from season 2, but it's not clear where from.
- Trying to persuade Sarah of the truth, Ellie tells her she was present for her wedding and Clara's birth.
- Chuck takes Sarah to the house he showed her in Chuck Versus the Santa Suit to try and jog her memory. Sarah sees the carving in a doorframe and remembers making it.
- Godzilla Threshold: Seeing that Sarah isn't wearing a seatbelt, a hostage Ellie crashes her car on purpose to keep Sarah from hurting Chuck.
- I Have Your Sister: Sarah takes Ellie hostage to force Chuck to give her the real Intersect glasses.
- "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Played with: Chuck and Sarah fight, but Chuck only blocks her hits, flat-out refusing to return them.Chuck: I will never hurt you.
- In Love with the Mark: Chuck tries desperately to make Sarah remember their time together, but she refuses to believe she made such a rookie error as to fall victim to this trope. She gets as far as, "I did my job so well you think that's what happened." It's not until the final scene that she admits it's true, but insists she doesn't feel anything for Chuck now.
- Out-of-Character Alert: There are a lot of little things, but Chuck is sure something's wrong with Sarah when she pulls her feet away from his in bed (because her feet get cold, and usually he'd keep them warm with his).
- Shout-Out:
- Chuck explains the DARPA lab to Morgan as "If the CIA had a Q working for them, he'd be working right there".
- Morgan is thrilled to find an Invisibility Cloak in the DARPA lab. Harry Potter references are a given, but there's also The Fugitive as he holds his arm under the cloak and jokes about the one-armed man.
- Spotting the Thread: Chuck finds the Intersect glasses in Sarah's things before the DARPA mission. Given that they're going to destroy the Intersect, not take it, he's suspicious. He takes a blank pair of glasses and, when Sarah turns on the team, he swaps them over.
