"And God Created Woodman" is the 14th episode of the sixth season of Cheers.

Rebecca the bar manager is charged with organizing a party for Daniel Collier, a senior executive at the corporation. At first she is going to hire a caterer but after Sam and Woody insist, she lets them work the party (which appears to be on the same set as Evan Drake's house from four episodes ago).

Rebecca to her horror sees Woody tossing trash into a highly valuable vase that Woody took for a garbage can. She takes the vase back into the kitchen to clean it out—and drops it. A terrified Rebecca is visualizing the end of her career when Woody steps up and tells Collier that he broke the vase. Surprising consequences follow.

In the B-plot, Cliff sells the gang at the bar some mail-order handmade shoes. In the C-plot, Sam hits on Linda, a hot rich lady at the fancy party.

Directed by John Ratzenberger, the first of four. This is the episode where we learn that Rebecca's company is called the Lillian Corporation.

Tropes:

  • Berserk Button: The usually affable Woody gets surprisingly angry when Sam says of Rebecca, "She thinks we're nincompoops."
  • Death Glare: Woody is drinking and laughing and having a great time with "Pinky" Collier when Rebecca comes in with the drinks. Her Death Glare when Woody says "I see our serving wench is here!" causes him to backtrack and say "I mean, hello Miss Howe."
  • Double Entendre: Sam seems to have succeeded with the gorgeous Linda. She says "Great, what time will you be getting off?"—and Sam just grins.
  • Hand Gag: Sam has to slap his hand over Rebecca's mouth to keep her from screaming when they hear the crash from the kitchen. But Woody didn't break the vase, he dropped a box of glasses. Rebecca breaks the vase moments later.
  • Reassigned to Antarctica: This is the episode where we learn that Rebecca's career is going downhill, that she was once a junior executive and "that Siberia called Cheers" is a demotion.
  • Sarcasm Mode: Cliff comes into the bar singing a ditty about his new shiny shoes, then asks if anyone notices anything different about him. An eye-rolling Norm says "OK, I'll go out on a limb. New shoes?"
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: Rebecca wears a backless red dress to the party.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: Collier gets really really drunk at the party, and shows up at the bar having forgotten both his new friendship with Woody and the whole incident with the vase. This time Sam takes the fall, only for an admiring Collier to say "You've got grit!", much to Rebecca's disgust, again.
