Following the shootout, Spencer is admitted to the hospital and given a difficult choice to take a risky surgery if he wants to continue playing football. As his family and loved ones wait for Spencer to recover, Coop tries to prevent Flip from initiating a Blood civil war in Crenshaw.


Tropes featured in this episode:

  • Big Brother Instinct: Darnell immediately confronts Tyrone once he realizes that it was him who shot Spencer.
  • Blood-Splattered Wedding Dress: Spencer's blood splattered all over Olivia's cotillion dress.
  • Career-Ending Injury: Averted. If Spencer doesn't get surgery, he'll never play again. Even if he does, it's a risky procedure and he could end up with his right arm paralysed. Luckily, he chooses surgery and it goes well and looks like he will regain mobility.
  • A Friend in Need: The entire Eagles team show up to support Billy so he won't be replaced merely for attending to Spencer. And when Cliff points out that Spencer is no longer part of the team, Asher replies that he will always be an Eagle.
  • I Can't Feel My Legs!: Spencer can't move his body when he first wakes up because the bullet paralyzed him. The surgeon who is about to perform on it warns that if the surgery fails, his arm will be paralyzed.
  • It Gets Easier: Preach convinces Coop not to kill Tyrone, saying that a person's first kill always changes them.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Preach demonstrates it clearly when he has an actual heart-to-heart talk with Coop, trying to convince her not to avenge Spencer by dealing Tyrone vigilante justice.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Preach tries substituting for Coop to deal with Tyrone. He gets a third strike for his previous assault of Buggs instead.
  • Police Are Useless: The detective who questions Olivia. He talks about Spencer as if he is either a gangbanger or a drug dealer, refuses to pursue the one who actually shot him, confiscates her phone, and generally makes her feel uncomfortable.
  • "Ray of Hope" Ending: Tyrone gets away scot-free after shooting Spencer and setting up Preach to be arrested, but Coop promises that she will kill him if she ever sees him.
  • Shower of Angst: Upon returning home, Olivia sobs as she takes a shower to clean Spencer's blood.
  • Sore Loser: Even though he claims that he admits defeat when he sees it, upon his firing as head of the boosters club, Cliff continues to spite Billy as he walks out of the room.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: Having lured Preach into being captured by the LAPD, Tyrone leaves Crenshaw for the time being.
  • Your Makeup Is Running: Since Spencer's shooting happened after a cotillion after all, when Olivia started crying, her makeup runs all over her face.
