The MPU works to track down the kidnapped son of a doctor, but the case takes a turn when his mother gets in direct contact with the kidnapper; Kemi expresses her concerns for Sidney's wellbeing to Nikki and Jason.

- Asshole Victim: Brad. Vicki could qualify as well as Pat took Andy to save him after Vicki's repeated neglect almost got Andy killed.

- If I Can't Have You…: Believing that Andy will be returned to Pat if she surrenders, Vicki's final act is to attempt a murder-suicide of herself and Andy by jumping off a bridge into a river. Fortunately, Andy is saved.
- Karma Houdini: Despite her sympathetic and justifiable motives, Pat Wells faces no consequences for kidnapping Andy from his drug addict mother Vicki, with Nikki's report branding Vicki and her lover Brad (presumably Andy's biological father) as an outlaw couple who kidnapped Pat and Steve's son for ransom. Nikki presumably does this more for Andy's sake than Pat's as the truth coming out would lead to child services taking him away, with her believing he's better off with the Wells, who are loving parents.
- Mama Bear: Vicki shot Brad to stop him from ransoming Andy back to the Wells.
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: While child services likely wouldn't have given Andy back to Vicki after all her neglect, Vicki surrendering to the police would've led to the truth about Andy going on the record and Pat going to jail for kidnapping. Committing suicide allows Nikki to cover up the truth and let Andy stay with the Wells.
- Only in It for the Money: Vicki's lover Brad, implied to be Andy's father, only helped her take Andy from Pat and Steve to ransom him back for a payday.
- Parental Neglect: Why Pat took Andy from Vicki, as her on and off drug addiction kept sending him back into Pat's care with child services not doing anything twice, with the last straw being when Vicki left Andy in a locked car on a hot day while high.
- The Reveal: Pat isn't Andy's real mother, having kidnapped him from Vicki 4 years earlier due to the latter woman's horrible neglect.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Mike rightfully calls out Nikki for omitting in her report that Pat originally kidnapped Andy, considering solving kidnappings falls under their job description.
