Moe visits the tree house with a special birthday surprise for BMO. While BMO's mission stands on the brink of disaster, Finn and Jake host a strange guest.

Tropes:

  • Brain Uploading: When Moe arrives as a MO unit, he explains that his body "conked out" and had his memories uploaded into one of his machines. Turns out only the first part is correct.
  • Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie: Moe wanted his downloaded memories to be shot up into space so that he may soar among the stars for all eternity. AMO had other plans.
  • Cain and Abel: AMO (the first MO unit and therefore the oldest sibling in the "family") made all the other MO units jump into a trash compactor, and tried to trick BMO into doing the same.
  • Continuity Nod: BMO tries to talk to the air, saying that it's been a long time since they had last spoken
  • Disney Villain Death: AMO falls off a cliff and explodes offscreen. His Heart Drive dims, seemingly to signify that he is indeed dead.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When ALLMO asks if the MO claiming to be Moe at the treehouse has weapons on the top of his head, BMO assures them otherwise, describing the large, fluffy wig "he" was wearing...before realizing the wig could easily be hiding AMO's weaponized top.
  • Expy: BMO's struggle against his amoral brother AMO, both of them robots, in the wake of their elderly creator/father Moe's death is quite reminiscent of the struggle between Data and Lore on Star Trek: The Next Generation after their creator Dr. Soong dies. BMO even gives a Data-like speech at the end of the episode, realizing that Moe gave him the ability to grow beyond his programming.
  • Finger in a Barrel: A variation. AMO attacks BMO by generating pellets that fire from his antennae. BMO manages to block one of the pellets before it fires, and when it does the recoil sends AMO flying backwards off a high ledge.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: AMO was programmed to receive love. The ways he went about it, however, were questionable.
  • Internal Homage: Finn and Jake go sledding on an office chair, the same as they did in "Prisoners of Love". The storyboard of the animation was even traced over the storyboards of the original episode.
  • It's All About Me: AMO was programmed to receive love, but not to give it. Therefore he demands that everyone around him love him unconditionally and throws violent tantrums when denied.
  • Killed Off for Real: Moe, entrusting AMO with his final request.
  • Not Quite Dead: In the chamber below the trash compactor, BMO finds the remains of all the other MO units squashed together into a cube-shaped Hive Mind.
  • Psycho Prototype: AMO, BMO's direct predecessor. Moe programmed him to receive love, but his desire to be loved manifested itself into wanting to be the only one to be loved.
  • Repeat Cut: The shot where AMO is blown off the ledge from the final pellet blast is viewed via triple take.
  • Wham Line: After BMO learns of AMO's back story from ALLMO, he expresses his birthday wish for Moe, whom he believes is at the Treefort in MO form, to fix AMO. ALLMO then tells BMO that this is impossible, as Moe "went offline yesterday".
