Tropes

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: BMO and the bubble rescue a red skinned baby named Sparkle. Sparkle's mother also has red skin, as well as light green hair.
  • Ambiguously Gay: The bubble towards BMO, but also made comments on Sparkle growing up to be a strapping horse whisperer or sexy hit man.
    • Makes it far less ambiguous when he states he wants to marry BMO and later declares his love for him.
  • Ambiguously Human: Sparkle and his mother are red skinned and have a strange webbed hand.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: The talking bubble who later turns out to be sentient air.
  • Bury Your Gays: Finn and Jake pop the talking bubble that's been hanging out with BMO immediately after it confesses that it's falling in love with BMO. Though BMO has an Ambiguous Gender, earlier in the episode he referred to a "strapping horse whisperer" and a "sexy hitman," which makes it a little less ambiguous. However, it's subverted when it's revealed that he was actually the air trapped in the bubble, and now that Finn and Jake have popped it he is free.
  • Crying Wolf: Finn's and Jake's callous reaction to Bubble being popped are because they've known BMO to play elaborate games before.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode features BMO on an adventure of his own.
  • Disaster Dominoes: A positive example, where Bubble moving a leaf affects progressively bigger objects that end with a huge tree falling across the river, and saving BMO and the baby from the waterfall.
  • Eaten Alive: BMO is forced down a baby bird's mouth by its mother. Subverted soon after when he escapes its mouth when it falls asleep.
  • Fearless Infant: Sparkle seems oblivious to the dangers he and BMO go through on their journey through the forest.
  • Inevitable Waterfall: When the baby falls into the river and BMO jumps after, they nearly go over a waterfall.
  • Irony: At the beginning BMO tells Bubble how cool Finn and Jake are, which is retroactively tragic given the ending.
  • Kick the Dog: Jake pops the bubble, BMO mourns the bubble's death, and Jake laughs while BMO cries. Not nice!
  • Kidnapping Bird of Prey: The episode begins with BMO being kidnapped by a giant bird that attempts to feed him to its chicks.
  • Rope Bridge: BMO, Bubble, and Sparkle stumble upon a rickety old wooden bridge across a narrow but deep canyon.
  • Shout-Out: The crack on BMO's screen makes his/her face look like the late 1990s/early 2000s macOS logo.
  • Stalker with a Crush: "Air will be with BMO forever and ever." BMO still reacts positively to this.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Bubble names the stray baby he and BMO find "Sparkle", but BMO insists the baby looks more like a "Ricky". It turns out Bubble correctly guessed the baby's name when his mother addresses him as "Sparkle".
  • Ungrateful Bitch: Played with. Sparkle's mother is visibly upset when she scolds BMO for its behavior and even says that BMO "should be ashamed" for taking her child, even though BMO had really been caring for Sparkle (though she did not know this). In her defense however, she was unaware of that fact, and as far as she knew Sparkle had simply been kidnapped by BMO, not helped by BMO visibly fighting her to try and keep "Ricky", only reinforcing her belief they kidnapped Sparkle.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Sparkle's mother gives on to BMO for supposedly kidnapping her baby. Though in her defense, BMO was having a really hard time saying goodbye to "Ricky".
