- Anger Born of Worry: Finn tells Jake that the only reason he yelled at Tree Trunks is because he was frustrated with her recklessness and worried for her safety.
- Attack of the Killer Whatever: The monsters that threaten Tree Trunks include a pack of evil animated signs.
- Big "NO!": Jake drops one when Finn threatens to eat all the apple pie.
- Covered in Kisses: Happens to Jake, thanks to Tree Trunks smooth-talking her way into letting her help with a monster.Jake: She got past me, man. I tried to stop her, but she overpowered me!
- Ditto Fighter: The Crystal Guardian copies every move of Finn and Jake, and even shapeshifts into a twisted version of them. They eventually outsmart him to get the apple.
- Living Structure Monster: The "Wall of Flesh" that first attacks Tree Trunk.
- Gainax Ending: Tree Trunks takes a bite of the Crystal Gem Apple, and spontaneously combusts. Finn, Jake, and even the Crystal Guardian are shocked and baffled by this turn of events. It then cuts to show Tree Trunks reflected in a gem, running and giggling excitedly. "Crystals Have Power" eventually reveals what happened to Tree Trunks.
- Genre Blindness: Tree Trunks bumbles through the dark forest completely unaware of the danger she's in, and has to be bailed out by Finn and Jake numerous times. Among other things, she tries to throw a tea party for a bunch of evil signs and tries to seduce a ravenous monster.
- Show Some Leg: Tree Trunks tries to distract the Snaked-Armed Ruby Brain Beast with her "womanly charms and elephant prowess". It doesn't seem to have any effect.Tree Trunks: I'm helping you by tempting this guy... with my body.
- Worm in an Apple: The episode opens in Tree Trunks's apple orchard, where Finn and Jake are chopping up apples with their swords. A green worm eagerly approaches one of the apples, only for it to be halved right before the critter reaches its intended meal.
