Basic Trope: A character is half human, half, some other creature.
- Straight: Alice is half-human, half-fairy.
- Exaggerated:
- Alice is half-human, half-fairy, half-vampire, half-goblin, half-zombie, and half-robot.
- Alice is half human, half fairy, and her husband Bob is half human, half orc. And their daughter Alexa is Half-human, half-dragon. Wait, what?
- Downplayed: Alice has a fairy mother and a human father, but her fairy traits are never shown. She appears to be dominantly human, while her fairy traits are recessive.
- Justified:
- The fairies in this setting are a subspecies that evolved to be able to use magic, and both humans and fairies have a common ancestor.
- Alice is an Artificial Human who was altered in order for her to be able to use magic.
- Alice has two human parents, but she was "infected" with a supernatural essence while in her mother's womb, causing her to not be fully human.
- Subverted:
- Alice is fully human, and her fairy mother is actually her stepmother.
- Alice is believed to be half werewolf - she merely has a rare genetic condition which causes her to be excessively hairy.
- Double Subverted: Or is she?
- Enforced: Rule of Cool
- Deconstructed: Alice winds up Delicate and Sickly, only born after many miscarried siblings. (Specifically they only bothered to ensure a peace treaty.) It turns out a weakness to Cold Iron and humans having iron based blood is a combination which can only end poorly.
- Implied: Alice is never directly stated to be half fairy, but she seems to have fairy magic. Either that, or she's just a talented scientist.
- Untwisted: Neither of Alice's parents are human, but she has enough human ancestors to be half human, and half various other fantasy races.
