Basic Trope: A character's first scene introduces the audience to just who this character will be.
- Straight: Spencer, the Genius Bruiser, shows off this trait in his introductory scene by reading a book on quantum physics before single-handedly fighting off a bunch of mooks.
- Exaggerated:
- Every character's first scene tells you exactly who they'll be.
- All of Spencer's prominent traits are revealed in his first scene.
- Downplayed:
- Spencer being a Genius Bruiser is an important part of his character, but his most well-defined trait is showing that Real Men Wear Pink, which isn't revealed until later.
- Spencer's first real appearance is a minor cameo, but his first full appearance is a better look at who he really is.
- Justified: Being a Genius Bruiser is Spencer's defining trait, so why wouldn't he show this at an early moment?
- Inverted: The audience doesn't get to find out who Spencer is until his last appearance in the series.
- Subverted:
- Spencer's first appearance shows him jumping out of a helicopter to fight off the villains... but then he turns out to be The Woobie.
- Spencer is set up as a Genius Bruiser, but eventually undergoes flanderization to the point in which he loses the "genius" part and becomes more of a Dumb Muscle.
- Double Subverted:
- While Spencer is The Woobie, he's also a Hurting Hero / Heartbroken Badass.
- Spencer later becomes a genius again, and/or shows that he was Obfuscating Stupidity.
- Parodied: ???
- Zig-Zagged: ???
- Averted: The first scene doesn't show the audience what Spencer is like.
- Enforced: The creators want the audience to know right off the bat what kind of character Spencer will be.
- Lampshaded: ???
- Invoked: ???
- Exploited: ???
- Defied: ???
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed:
- "I suppose first impressions really do matter. Spencer's first appearance on that show had him read that book on quantum physics before beating up those guys, and I just knew he was gonna be a smart, strong guy."
- "I wonder why the first scene a character is in will always tell you just who they're gonna be."
