- Straight: A monster is about to attack Danny and Claire. When Claire points out that a monster is coming for them, Danny initially goes "Oh, okay", and it takes him a second before he reacts with a panicked "Wait, what?!"
- Exaggerated:
- Danny has a very intense Freak Out when he realizes he and Claire are in danger.
- Delayed Mass "Oh, Crap!": Claire tells a whole group of people that a monster is about to attack them. They don't react until slightly later, in which all of them freak out at once.
- Downplayed: Delayed This Is Gonna Suck: When Claire tells Danny about the monster coming to attack them, Danny realizes what she's talking about a few seconds later, and gives a subdued "Oh, that's not good..." response.
- Justified:
- Danny wasn't paying attention to what Claire said at first, so he didn't realize that Claire was telling him that they were in danger.
- It took Danny a moment to realize that the monster was dangerous — or even that he momentarily forgot there was a monster chasing them at all.
- Danny had an Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap! reaction; it took him until he actually repeated the phrase (whether out loud or just in his head) that he realized he and Claire were in trouble.
- Inverted: Danny thinks he's in trouble, but it takes him a second to realize that the "threat" is actually harmless.
- Subverted:
- Claire tells Danny that a monster is chasing after them. They both become scared until they remember that the monster in question is completely harmless.
- Danny gives an "Oh, Crap!" Fakeout to Claire, because he's not actually afraid of the danger.
- Double Subverted:
- ...it only looks harmless. It's actually a Killer Rabbit.
- Danny only acts like he's not afraid of the danger.
- Parodied: The delayed reaction is over something Faux Horrific, like Claire admitting she likes a song that Danny hates.
