Besides having a penchant for badass fights, Kagurabachi also packs heaps of disturbing elements, even putting the extreme amounts of body chopping aside aside.

    In General
  • In several scenes, the scariest thing on page is Chihiro himself. The sheer lethal efficiency in which he moves to kill his opponents, especially if they are unaware of his presence, is illustrated excellently to highlight how unnerving it would be to see a black-shrouded figure with red eyes hunched over the corpse of your fellow guard and poised to strike.

    Vs. Sojo Arc
  • As early on as chapter two, a yakuza member Chihiro interrogates becomes the first example as soon as he attempts to leak information regarding the Hishaku. The moment he speaks, the man’s face violently contorts as massive branches burst out of his face, with his whole body quickly following suit. At the end of it, the yakuza member is left as nothing but a pincushion of blood and brambles, the final panel of his face displaying the mutilated agony of his final moments.
  • In chapter 3, we are shown the sorcerer known as Daruma, who creates his namesake Daruma bombs by having them mold and pop out of his skin like giant play-doh pimples. It’s not the worst body horror, but it’s certainly a little icky to see.
  • When Sojo puts a bounty on Chihiro and Char’s heads, the first of the many sorcerers who come after them shows up with a particularly horrid display of body horror by them making the street twist and morph itself into a mass of gnarly bodies.
  • When a second sorcerer with PTSD powers suddenly shows up while Chihiro tries to fight off a different one, the moment he is touched, his mind is forced to relive the day of his father’s death, which apparently lasted for hours in his own mind.
  • The slaughter of the Kyonagi Clan before the events of the story. Renowned for their ability to heal from deathly wounds, enemies of the clan who coveted their power and supposed invincibility invaded their village in the night, burning it to the ground. Surviving members of the clan were then eaten in hopes their power would transfer to those who consumed them. Only a single young girl of the entire clan's population survived the attack.
  • Char's mother was killed after she stayed behind to cover her daughter's escape. While it is not revealed how, given she had a regenerative power strong enough to grow back a limb in seconds, it begs the question of just how excruciating Sojo made her final moments.
  • The annihilation of the Anti-Kuregumo Squad at the hands of Sojo. He quite literally tears through the entire Squad to get back to Kuregumo after they disarm him, effortlessly cutting them all to pieces or ripping straight through them. In the aftermath, all but two are fatally injured, and even one of the survivors is shown pinned underwater by a chunk of fallen rock for an indeterminate amount of time.

    Rakuzaichi Arc
  • The minor yakuza gang who capture Hakuri were initially trying to kidnap a little girl for their boss's pleasure. His underling's refer to as his "type" and he mentions "fasting" prior to the Rakuzaichi, which makes it evident the kid would not have been his first victim.
  • Kyora and the practices of the entire Sazanami family. For at least 208 years, the organization has conducted formalized auctions of weapons and captured people to other criminals right in the heart of Tokyo, banking on the massive gathering of criminals to make authorities turn a blind eye. Not only do they keep dozens of people like animals in cages, on a personal level the entire family is so deeply twisted they simply see and refer to them all as merchandise for the highest bidder.
    • They are so confident in their influence they openly offer up business to the Kamunabi, who should be their greatest enemy. The head of the Kamunabi's council is shown receiving advanced notice by letter of Enten entering the bidding pool, and decides leaving them to their business over than sending in a duo civilly to win the bid is the best choice to keep Tokyo safe long term.
  • Soya Sazanami throughout his first appearance, for being a childish, deluded, and dangerous play on the Knight Templar Big Brother. He is so dedicated to keeping his younger brother loyal to the family the instant he refuses he breaks down in tears, blames the first girl he sees for "leading his brother astray" and immediately tries to kill her. Hakuri tries to stop him, and he lays him out with a single punch, still crying his eyes out.
