Diary of a Tourney Kid
is a musical tournament hosted on SoundCloud inspired by the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series and SiIvaGunner’s “King For Another Day”. In it, sixteen “victims” are pitted against each other in a triple-elimination bracket with each character receiving tracks based on their source list and the audience voting over who they want to move on to the next round.
The tournament tells the story of how Greg Heffley from Diary of a Wimpy Kid found a way to bring people (both real and fictional) into his diary and alongside his partner W.D. Gaster from Undertale, they plan on tormenting them for things they've done that pissed him off.
However, as the tournament progresses, the stakes begin to rise with Greg mysteriously disappearing, Gaster performing unethical experiments, and contestants growing more and more desperate to escape as they slowly realize the situation they're in.
Tropes:
- Absurdly High-Stakes Game: Losing in Diary of a Tourney Kid causes the victims to be morphed into horrifying goners, then killed off entirely.
- Cerebus Syndrome: The tournament begins normal enough with Greg & Gaster discharging their anger towards characters by putting them in a competition, but it starts to ramp up in intensity per round as Greg disappears with his friends & family searching for him while Gaster preforms disturbing experiments on those that are eliminated.
- Homage: The entire event draws heavy inspiration from King For Another Day, Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, and Undertale.
- Orwellian Retcon: One of AlphaGenos' first solos was a track titled "SANS?!" featuring Megalovania. Eventually, the Megalovania was removed, with the track itself being renamed to "?!".
- Stylistic Suck: Characters are depicted with simple doodles to fit the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid theme. Inverted later on as characters start to look more detailed and closer resemble their real selves.
- Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny: Characters both real and fictional competing against each other (though usually not physically fighting) to see who will be the last one standing.
