Dazey and the Scouts was a self proclaimed "microtonal jazz quartet" that is more accurately described as a Queercore Surf Punk Indie Rock band. It was formed in 2016 by members Lea Jaffe and Brennan Wedl (vocals and guitar), Otto Klammer (vocals and bass), and Jack Whelan (drums). The band only released one album, Maggot, before their breakup in 2018.

Tropes:

  • Artist and the Band: Although the band follows this naming scheme, there isn't a member of the band named Dazey.
  • Break-Up Song: "Wet" is about the singer being "wet" from tears after a breakup.
  • Broken Pedestal: The lyrics of "James Deen You Let Us Down" focus on the singer becoming disillusioned with the pornstar James Deen she once loved after learning of his sexual crimes.
  • Diss Track: "James Deen You Let Us Down" is a diss track towards pornstar James Deen, who received many allegations of sexual assault. The lyrics show how the singer was once a big fan but now hates him because of his horrible actions and wishes violence against him.
  • Indie Rock
  • Sexual Euphemism: Their lyrics contain many sexual euphemisms and raunchy themes. Interesting, "Wet" uses masturbation and crying as euphemisms for one another, describing how the singer's loneliness makes her "wet".
  • Surf Rock: Their music is Surf Punk, which combines influences from Surf Rock and Punk Rock.
  • Take That!: "James Deen You Let Us Down" is one big Take That to James Deen due to the many acts of sexual assault he committed.
  • Queercore: The band's music contains a lot of queer themes within its punk sound.
